All in all, this book was a fun romp. There were some truly wild moments of alien biology I won’t spoil, but they were more amusing than horrific. Roland and Vanessa’s tension and chemistry was truly delicious. Their physical relationship was a bit of a slow burn but well worth the wait.
The Palace of Illusions by Rowenna Miller is $2.99! This came out over the summer and I mentioned it on Hide Your Wallet because of the interesting setting. I’m not sure if there’s any romance.
A Legend in the Baking by Jamie Wesley is $2.99! This is book two in the Sugar Blitz series and came out last November. Maybe grab a sweet treat if you’re reading this one.
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is over 800 pages, so a digital copy might be beneficial, though many readers felt a couple hundred pages could have been chopped. I’ve seen reviews call this one an “epic feminist fantasy” novel.
Back After This by Linda Holmes is $1.99! If you still need to fill the “Works in Audio” bingo square, this would qualify. This is standalone and straddles the line between romance and women’s fiction.
RECOMMENDED: A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare is 99c! This is the second book in the Spindle Cove series and I absolutely love it. It might be my favorite Dare, but I think I need to read this one and When a Scot Ties the Knot back to back to make a full assessment. Carrie gave this book an A-:
If you are also a person who perks up at the sound of the word “Tessellation” or who longs to travel through Britain with a viscount and a dinosaur foot, then check this book out right away.
The Lake House by Kate Morton is $1.99! This book has all sorts of elements: historical fiction, Gothic mystery, and a family saga. Elyse gave this book a B:
The Lake House had some issues–there is A LOT going on here, tons of threads to keep track of–but it totally sucked me in. Once the novel gets its momentum, it barrels at you like a freight train. Historical fiction and mystery fans might want to put this on hold at the local library, at least while it’s still in hardcover.
Chilling, packed with lore, and a slow burn, Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett is the type of book I’ve been looking for. Their adventure from faerie field research to two professors running like hell from a faerie nightmare kept me on the edge of my seat.
A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting by Sophie Irwin is $1.99! This one was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet, though we don’t have a formal review. Did any of you read it? What did you think?
A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston is $1.99! The heroine finds herself in a small town romance novel and I’m definitely tempted by the meta-ness of it all. However, Poston’s romances have always been middle of the road for me personally.
To Beguile a Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! This is book three in the Legend of the Four Soldiers series. There is definitely a Beauty and the Beast element here. Have you read this series?
