Overall, this was a really fun read, especially if you enjoy stories about writers and writing. I liked the humour, and I really enjoyed the friendship between M.E. and Savannah. While I had some (ok, many) misgivings about their professional relationship, I found their romantic relationship both convincing and charming.
Love, Comment, Subscribe by Cathy Yardley is $2.49 at Amazon! This is the first book in the Ponto Beach Reunion series. The main characters were frenemies in high school, though agree to collab to help their growing YouTube and streaming channels.
A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting by Sophie Irwin is $1.99! This one was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet, though we don’t have a formal review. Did any of you read it? What did you think?
Luck and Last Resorts by Sarah Grunder Ruiz is $1.99! This is book two in a series, but operates fine as a standalone. I’ve heard good things about Ruiz’s writing from friends who read romance. Based on their comments, I expect lots of emotions and pining.
RECOMMENDED: A Gentleman Never Keeps Score by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! Carrie read this one and enjoyed it. It was given a B+ grade:
I enjoyed this book so much! A Gentleman Never Keeps Score is a Regency m/m about a disgraced gentleman and a Black pub keeper. The book has a lovely romance as well as a theme of found family and recovery from trauma.
Bridgerton Collection Volume 2 by Julia Quinn is $4.99! The first collection has been on sale before and if you’re looking to slowly accrue these books on your e-reader, this is good deal. Do you have a favorite Bridgerton novel?
Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie is $2.99! know Carrie really loves this book (and the entire series, I believe). It’s also a Hugo Award winner! Readers really loved the scifi world building, though some admitted wanting more action in the first book of the Imperial Radch series.
John Eyre by Mimi Matthews is $2.99! This is a retelling of the Bronte classic and has similar elements of a Gothic historical romance. Have you read this one? Carrie read it and gave it a C+ in a Lightning Review.
This book does a lot of things right. The character work is deep and brilliant, the historical context is plentiful and guides readers along even if they know nothing, and the writing is so beautifully done. Like I mentioned above, the overall pace of the story didn’t bother me, just the pace of the romance. If that would have been sped up, this would be a near perfect book for me. I still recommend it, but you need to go into this expecting the slowest of slow burns.
All the Right Notes by Dominic Lim is $2.99! This a Kindle Daily Deal. Dahlia mentioned this one over the summer in her monthly queer romances column. It’s also a debut!
