Even though at first I found this book to be slow going, I came to appreciate it for its intersectional feminism and its unabashed adoration of all the science and math that goes into making space flight possible.
Foul Days by Genoveva Dimova is $2.99! This is book one in a series. Sarah mentioned this in Hide Your Wallet when it was released last summer, citing the comparisons to The Witcher and Naomi Novik.
The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren is $2.99! I feel like CLo books don’t go on sale as often as other author’s titles, so snap this one up while you can.
Celebrity romance is one of my favorite tropes, and for me this book stands out. Romantic Comedy features a hero who is not purely defined by celebrity status, gives readers a deep dive into a world I found fascinating, contains an epistolary courtship, and at times is laugh-out-loud funny.
Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson is $1.99! This is book one in the Ernest Cunningham Mysteries series. I remember this one making a splash when it released because that title is very compelling.
RECOMMENDED: Earls Trip by Jenny Holiday is $3.99! This is a standalone historical romance and was described as Ted Lasso meets Bridgerton for a 19th century spin on The Hangover. We ran a guest review of this one and it earned a B+.
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by NK Jemisin is $1.99! This is a fantasy novel with a bit of romance and a strong, fierce heroine who is MUCH loved by readers. This book was nominated for the Hugo, the Nebula, and won the Locus for Best First Novel.
The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel by Jennifer McQuiston is $1.99! This is part of the Seduction Diaries series and readers are divided on whether they eventually warmed up to the hero. Jennifer’s podcast interview on the site is one of my faves because she’s so fascinating.
We Solve Murders by Richard Osman is $6.99! This came out last September, but I suspect some of you may still be waiting for your library hold to come in. Maybe snap this up if you impatience is winning out.
Bombshell by Sarah MacLean is $1.99! This is the first book in the Hell’s Belles series. Book two is also on sale. Elyse gave this one a B-:
Objectively I can look at this book and say that some readers may have an issue with how much time spent on the girl-gang scenes versus the romance, but also ONE OF THEM SPECIALIZES IN EXPLOSIONS. I think part of this imbalance is to set up the rest of the series, but the gang’s quest for justice was very heisty and fun.
Swordheart by T. Kingfisher is $2.99! Thanks to everyone who let us know about this one. A special edition of Swordheart with sprayed edges is coming out at the end of February. We also mention this in two Rec Leagues: Gentle Historical or Fantasy Road Trips and “Normal” Heroines in Fantasy Romance.
