Book The King

This podcast is brought to you by Signet, publisher of THE KING—the latest in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series from #1 New York Times bestselling author J.R. Ward—now in paperback.

Long live the King…

After turning his back on the throne for centuries, Wrath, son of Wrath, finally assumed his father’s mantle–with the help of his beloved mate. But the crown sets heavily on his head.

As the war with the Lessening Society rages on, and the threat from the Band of Bastards truly hits home, he is forced to make choices that put everything–and everyone–at risk.

Beth Randall thought she knew what she was getting into when she mated the last pure blooded vampire on the planet: An easy ride was not it. But when she decides she wants a child, she’s unprepared for Wrath’s response–or the distance it creates between them.

The question is, will true love win out… or tortured legacy take over?

  1. Jael says:

    Yeah, borrowing ebooks from the library with Overdrive is great, isn’t it?  I got my first library card in over 30 years a couple of years ago when I discovered that free treasure trove, and the catalog of romance and historicals has really grown since then!

    You’re right that Overdrive itself is a bit of a pain, and I’m always glad when my library has both Kindle and epub versions of books.  The hookup with the Kindle app just works.

    But Overdrive has been working on their own app and service, and it’s worlds better now than it was when I first tried to use it.  At least now, when there’s only an epub version of an ebook available, I don’t just give up and buy the Kindle version.  I at least try to borrow and read it with the Overdrive app.  Now if they can just get the syncing between phone/tablet devices working properly, they’ll have a real good thing there.

    Love the DBSA podcast!

  2. Karin says:

    I discovered Overdrive recently, it works great on my iPad Mini, which is how I read e-books(using the Kindle app).  Also, I found this free software called calibre, which converts e-books from one format to another.  I live dangerously, so I installed it on my laptop, and no viruses, no problems, it’s bonafide.

  3. SB Sarah says:

    @Jael:

    I had last tried the app when it was clunky and now that there’s integration with other options like Kindle and the onboard reader is so much better, it’s SO AWESOME. And I’m so happy you enjoy the podcast! 🙂

    @Karin:

    I looooooove Calibre (You can download it here.) I use it for everything. It’s one of the things I install first.

  4. Theolibrarian says:

    Great podcast! Hooray for Overdrive! I love being able to check out ebooks and audio books while I’m far away from my library. I also recently discovered that when you send your library ebook to your kindle, it triggers the discounted price of the audible audio book. Just go to the Amazon page for the book after you’ve sent it to your Kindle and if that book has whispersync, it should offer the discounted audio book.

  5. Elizabeth Dodson says:

    @Theolibrarian- Thanks for the tip about library books triggering the audio book discount!  Just used it to buy an audiobook that’s been on my list for a while.  So excited about this.

  6. RLJ says:

    So Overdrive is cool. It is available outside of United States as I’m in Canada and I’ve had it available at my current library and my last one. I know my SIL transfers her library books to her Kobo, but that requires Adobe Digital Editions which means it’s doable, just cumbersome. Amazon continues to cripple their customer service in Canada so the other awesome stuff y’all talk about are not available here. (Seriously, I can buy a Kindle Fire on the Canadian site, but they don’t have screen protectors for it available in Canada.)

    As for modern scientist heroines, there is Susan Elizabeth Phillips “Nobody’s Baby But Mine”
