Lessons in Disaster is such a beautiful, finely crafted book that I feel kind of humbled to have been able to read it. It’s not a perfect book – it ends abruptly, it can be didactic, and I developed a love/hate relationship with the tendencies of all these intellectual characters to use words like ‘heuristic’ in the middle of emotional arguments. But overall, this was lovely. The book tells the stories of two women and … Continue reading Lessons in Magic and Disaster by Charlie Jane Anders →

Back After This by Linda Holmes is $1.99! If you still need to fill the “Works in Audio” bingo square, this would qualify. This is standalone and straddles the line between romance and women’s fiction.

Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

This HaBO is from Amanda, who wants to track down this romance: Okay, so I read this maybe 15 or 20 years ago. Lately it’s been in my head, but strangely enough a google search has not yielded results! It’s a supernatural romance series. The main character is maybe a witch of some kind. And she solves problems; maybe like an investigator? I think it must be semi-post apocalyptic because tomatoes are bad and they … Continue reading HaBO: Tomatoes Caused the Apocalypse →

Happy Tuesday! September is looking pretty strong for new releases. I placed a bunch of preorders last month and I had to talk myself down to only five. What’s on your radar this week? Let us know in the comments!

RECOMMENDED: A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare is 99c! This is the second book in the Spindle Cove series and I absolutely love it. It might be my favorite Dare, but I think I need to read this one and When a Scot Ties the Knot back to back to make a full assessment. Carrie gave this book an A-:

Hello, everyone! This edition has a couple, somewhat topical non-fiction titles. That’s kind of where my brain is out right now. There’s also some translated magical realism and a crafting book. Are there any books you’d like to recommend? Drop them in the comments!

This month we are going on a field trip! I visited the Rosie the Riveter/WWII Home Front National Historical Park in Richmond, California. This National Historical Park includes a small but mighty visitor’s center that has fascinating and inclusive exhibits. I encourage history buffs to check out their website. Better yet, if you are visiting San Francisco or Oakland, take a side trip to this location. It’s set along the San Francisco Bay Trail which, … Continue reading Kickass Women in History: Field Trip! →
