Widdershins should be my absolute catnip. It features a m/m romance in a fantasy Victorian setting between a private detective and a geeky, shy philologist. One of the supporting characters is a woman who struggles to be respected as an Egyptologist in a male-dominated field. Most of the action takes place in a giant museum, and I do love a good museum! There’s a mummy, and I do love a good mummy! Alas, the plot … Continue reading Widdershins by Jordan L. Hawk →

RECOMMENDED: Paris in Love by Eloisa James is $1.99! This is a memoir about James’ time in Paris. Carrie had an earlier review of this one and loved it, giving it an A:
I took so much joy in reading this book. I truly meant to read it a little at a time, but I just devoured it. It was like this beautiful dream unfolding in front of me. It was a confection as lovely as the chocolate shoe James receives from her husband. I hadn’t planned to review this book – I picked it up purely as a guilty pleasure. But with every page I thought, “I HAVE to tell the Bitches about this book!” Now I have. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I really, really-really, really wanted to like this book, but the time spent in the hero’s point of view and his way of viewing the heroine irritated me at first, then grew to full-on dislike. Plus the heroine made some terrible comments and even worse decisions regarding the hero, and I came to dislike her, too. I do think that the problem is partly me, however, and that contemporary romance and I need a lengthy timeout, … Continue reading Acting on Impulse by Mia Sosa →
