The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

The Kiss Quotient

When Sarah asked me in an upcoming podcast episode how I felt about The Kiss Quotient, I had a sudden spout of verbal constipation. All of the words tried to escape my mouth at once. Sarah also would not let me submit a review that simply read, “Buy it. Read it.” I apologize for the squeeing that is about to coat your eyeballs, as I tell you a million reasons why this book is the … Continue reading The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Books on Sale: Soulless by Gail Carriger & More

Soulless by Gail Carriger is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This is the first book by the Parasol Protectorate series and for many readers, this book ignited their love for Carriger’s writing. I loved the first book, especially the heroine, but I agree with other reviewers in that there’s a lot of different things going on that conflict with one another. If you’re looking to get the entire series, it’s available for $16.99.

Perfekt Order by S.T. Bende

Perfekt Order

Perfekt Order by ST Bende is the first book in the Ære Saga, and (in my opinion) it borrows pretty heavily from Marvel’s Thor movies. Not Thor: The Dark World though. We’ve all agreed that that movie doesn’t exist. This is a YA adventure / romance with plenty of sequel bait handy for future books. It’s pretty uneven in a lot of areas, but it made me really nostalgic for Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the sense that a teenage … Continue reading Perfekt Order by S.T. Bende

Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Green Brings Out Her Witch Undertones

This HaBO request is from Heather, who is hoping to find this older historical romance: Way back around 1980 I read most of a book while on vacation, but had to leave it behind when my family went home. The book is set in the late 12th century. It’s about a distant kinswoman of Eleanor d’Aquitaine. She’s from a family with more “nobility” than money, and her family sends her to Queen Eleanor’s court for … Continue reading HaBO: Green Brings Out Her Witch Undertones

Books on Sale: The Untouchable Earl by Amy Sandas & More

The Untouchable Earl by Amy Sandas is $1.99! This is a historical romance with a hero who hates to be touched and a heroine who’s been auctioned off at a pleasure house. Readers enjoyed the hero, but found that his aversion to touch was overcome rather easily. This is the second book in the Fallen Ladies series and can be read as a standalone. However, the first book is FREE and the third book is only $2.99.

HaBO: YA Mystery with a Lavender Cover

This HaBO comes from Dee, who is trying to find this young adult book: I know it is not actually a romance, but more a YA mystery with some romantic elements. I read it as a kid (probably between age 10-14) and it still stuck with me. Of course, it seems like only I remember this book, but i did love it. Here are the details: For the life of me I cannot remember the … Continue reading HaBO: YA Mystery with a Lavender Cover

Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–Episode Two: Breakin’ Shit

Elyse Watches The Bachelorette with Kraken Rum and Coke with a big rose at the bottom

Happy Monday. It’s the day of week when I get drunk and watch The Bachelorette so you don’t have to. Last week was the season premiere, and a whole lot of people tuned in to see Becca Kufrin start her “journey” toward true love. On last season’s Bachelor Becca was horribly dumped by Arie Fuckthatguy, Jr after they became engaged. Now it’s Becca’s turn and she’s not putting up with any shit. For example, last week she … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–Episode Two: Breakin’ Shit

Two Steps Forward by Graeme Simsion and Anne Buist

Two Steps Forward

This book contained a lot of my catnip. There was walking, personal journeys, internal conflict, external challenges, larger meaning to simple interactions, and a deliberately paced travel story and romance that meanders through two countries. It’s a slow moving travel romance, and I love those. The main characters are two people who decide for individual, personal, or spiritual reasons to walk the Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James), or the Chemin, which is a very … Continue reading Two Steps Forward by Graeme Simsion and Anne Buist

RECOMMENDED: Silent in the Grave by Deanna Raybourn is $1.99! This book and series has been mentioned quite a bit on the site. Elyse recommended it if you like historical mysteries.
