The Bad Luck Bride by Janna MacGregor is $2.99! Sarah had the author on as part of a previous live podcast taping at RT and I found it fascinating. Some readers expressed confusion in how the overall plot unfolded, but others really loved the heroine and her cursed luck.

Welcome to a joint review of The Expanse Season Four. HeatherT is the person who first got me hooked on the show. Over the last few seasons we’ve had many differences over how we interpret characters and plots and which are our favorites but we remain united in our love of Amos and of Chrisjen Avarasala’s fashion choices. If you are new to the Expanse, we suggest starting at the beginning. While we both found … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Expanse, Season Four →
We have our first Rec League of 2020. I discovered this request buried in the archives of my inbox and put it on the calendar. However, I forget to note the sender. If this is your request, my apologies! But I hope you get some great reading suggestions. I feel the request is pretty self explanatory: the requester is looking for erotic romances without BDSM elements or relationships. Tara: Meghan O’Brien writes a lot of … Continue reading The Rec League: Erotic Romances without BDSM Elements →
Happy New Year! We have reached 2020. I’m not big on new year resolutions, but I’m adopting them in the most general way possible. read more books (obviously) form new connections and cultivate existing ones give myself permission to say no and recharge limit my social media time Feel free to drop some of your own goals for the year in the comments! … Did you know there’s such a thing as a “penis fish”? I … Continue reading Links: Nature is Weird and a Wedding for the Ages →

RECOMMENDED: Kiss of Steel by Bec McMaster is 99c! This is a steampunk romance, to which Elyse gave an A+ grade:
McMaster’s London Steampunk series is everything I want in a steampunk world–richly imagined, gritty and dark, and full of hot heroes and hot sex. Also, the hero is a cockney-accented, leather-clad, bad-boy vampire, so if Spike from Buffy gave you tingles? Yeah, go buy this book.

I know last Hide Your Wallet we instituted some changes. Well now we have more, thanks to the comment left by Katie C. A lot of you expressed wanting to keep the wide breadth of new releases and Katie’s suggestion was pretty great. We’re still keeping our book maximums (five per person), but have added an extra HYW post per month, allowing another five books per person. The first HYW of the month will cover … Continue reading January’s New Releases, Part One →

This HaBO request is from Melissa, who wants to find this contemporary romance with suspense elements: Not sure how long ago I read this, but it was a contemporary romance (possibly romantic suspense) with a heroine who owned her own clothing/accessories store and had a poodle who (not joking) was offended by badly dressed people. At one point, the poodle growls at the hero for putting on a jacket that does not go with the … Continue reading HaBO: Poodle Offended by Bad Fashion →

Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven is $1.99! I gave this one a C-, but I’d still recommend it with large caveats. 1) All of the trigger warnings. 2) It’s dense and the slow burn is quite slow. 3) There’s a magical infertility cure. Draven’s writing is always top notch and I’m curious about the next book, which follows a different couple.

This HaBO is from JoJo, who is looking for a book they read ages ago: I read this book a million years ago…but it has stuck with me because it was so off the beaten path! The main character is a woman who writes Christian music, and I think plays the organ. She’s really good, but she’s not really a believer. It was so funny and irreverent that I would love to read it again. … Continue reading HaBO: Heroine Plays the Organ →
Love Lettering is a way to end the decade on a perfect note. Or perhaps it’s a way to start the new decade on a perfect note. Whichever option you choose, my enthusiastic recommendation remains the same. It’s not a book to race through and devour in a short span of time. My advice is to linger on each page and let the words engulf you. Love Lettering is about signs, art, words, and the … Continue reading Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn →

RECOMMENDED: The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley is $1.99! I loved this book and give it five stars on Goodreads. It’s easily one of my favorite historical romance and it recently showed up in the comments of our Rec League: Unassuming, Underestimated Heroes post. However, some readers didn’t feel any love necessarily between the hero and heroine. For those who have read this, what did you think?
