Welcome to the cringey-est night in television–the hometowns episode of The Bachelor. Tonight Peter travels to Madison, Kelsey, Hannah Ann, and Victoria F’s respective hometowns where he meets their families. Why is the secondhand embarrassment so high? Because a lot of the time, contestants’ families aren’t really prepared for the shitshow that is this franchise. Not to mention that visiting with a dude who is dating your daughter, and three other women, and who might … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor–S24 E8: Why is there an airplane in here? →
The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James was the feminist, cold-case mystery I didn’t know I was waiting for. It has everything. It has intrepid amateur detectives. It has vengeful female ghosts. It has delicious justice and women coming together to deliver it. Added to all of that, the mystery was executed perfectly. In fact, here’s the one-line review I posted on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ElyseIndeed/status/1228791553696698369 The book is set in two different timelines, 2017 and … Continue reading The Sun Down Motel by Simone St. James →
Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

This HaBO comes from Priya, who is looking for a possible category romance: I read this (possibly Silhouette) romance in the mid-90’s. The heroine is a travel agent who once married an older man and adopted a son with him, but is now a widow raising a teenager by herself. The hero is a well-off business dude who’s only just discovered that his high school sweetheart got pregnant and gave up his/their baby without telling … Continue reading HaBO: Travel Agent, Maybe Rachel? →

RECOMMENDED: Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen is $2.99! This author became an auto-buy for me after I read this book as a part of a GoodReads reading challenge. I would liken this book to women’s fiction with a magical realism slant. It’s heartwarming and beautiful and has a 4-star rating on GR. I even wrote a Keeper Shelf squee for it; that’s how much I love this book.

Help A Bitch Out - SOLVED!

This HaBO request is from Susan, who is searching for a historical romance: Hero’s backstory: He is the son of a Duke (?) and his mom hates his dad so much she drops the hero off on the London docks/Thames waterfront when he is a small child. He gets put to work as a mudlark along with other young boys. When he is years older, maybe 8 to 12 yeas old, his father somehow finds … Continue reading HaBO: Hero Abandoned on the Docks →
In Chasing Cassandra, the sixth book in the Ravenels series, railway magnate Tom Severin finally gets his turn to be the hero. I have been hoping for a book about Tom since he was introduced in the first book in the Ravenels series. After all, I love to read about a Sad Historical Businessman brought low by love! Unfortunately, while I enjoyed this book, it also pained me because I felt like it could have … Continue reading Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas →

RECOMMENDED: Death Below Stairs by Jennifer Ashley is $1.99! It was a previous book club pick and Sarah has great things to say about the series:
I love the whole series and it’s on my short (very short) list of books to give to friends who are grieving. Competence porn, women looking after one another, and a wonderful set of characters. And food porn too. High grade. Proceed with caution if hungry or do yourself a big gifty favor and read with snacks.

For this caption contest, we’re going Old Skool! This was sent in to us by Ashley for Cover Snark consideration. Here’s what Ashley said: I’m kind of afraid of the animal fur dress she’s wearing, but also will not lie to you. I’d probs wear it. It looks fun and warm. Once I stop looking at the dress though, I notice the man has no pants? So I’m glad he custom fashioned an absolute banger … Continue reading Caption That Cover: A Throwback →

My One and Only Duke by Grace Burrowes is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, and wow there are a lot of them. This is the first book in the Rogues to Riches series, and the description compares it to a Cinderella story. There is a mystery element to this romance, which some readers loved and others didn’t.
