Usually when I fall in love with a book, I devour it in one giant gulp and at one sitting, and only come back to savour it on a second reading. So Book of Love was unusual for me, in that I loved it, but also kept putting it down because I wanted to make it last longer. The quality of the writing and the sweetness not just of the central relationship, but of the … Continue reading Book of Love by Erin Satie →

Torn by Rowenna Miller is $2.99! This is a fantasy novel with a seamstress main character. Carrie read this one and gave it a C+. The pacing was too slow for her, but it’s possible future books may pick up in momentum:
This book is the first in a new series. It has a lot of potential – good technical writing, multiple female characters, discussion of class and class mobility, clothes porn, and more. If other books pick up the pace, it could be great, but this first book was too slow to keep me invested.

April is still here, though it’s quickly on its way out in favor of May! I am personally so tired, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel in terms of trying to get to normalcy. We hope you all have been reading something great and we want you to tell us all about it! Catherine: I am having such a good reading week! Just finished The Devil Comes Courting by Courtney Milan, … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? April 2021 Edition, Part Two →

Daisy Jones & the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid is $2.99! This was a huge hit when it came out and I’ve heard it’s fantastic on audio. The story also has some epistolary and interview type elements to revel things, if that’s your particular catnip.

Amanda and I talk food, Key West, more food, writing bilingual characters, family drama, food, baseball, and writing with Priscilla Oliveras. Her latest book, Anchored Hearts, is out now, and there is SO much to discuss. This book made Amanda full on sob, and we have a really good time talking to Priscilla about it (don’t worry – no spoilers!). If you caught my goof last week, that was episode 453, not 463. I’m ahead … Continue reading 454. Anchored Hearts and Appetites with Priscilla Oliveras →

A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane is $1.99! Romancelandia went nuts for this fantasy romance, though I will warn the environment and world is pretty bleak at times. We also had a great guest review for this one by Crystal Anne with an E. What do you think of the series?

Claudia and Shana both love historical romances, but Shana loves Milan’s prickly heroines and puns, while Claudia’s catnip is the cozy charm of Balogh’s love stories, the fewer puns the better. Shana convinced Claudia that To Love and To Loathe’s “enemies to hookup to lovers” storyline would pull us out of our reading slump. She now owes Claudia a million lemon bars because this book was a tropeopcalypse. So much potential, but so poorly executed. … Continue reading To Love and To Loathe by Martha Waters →

Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho is $1.99! I thought we had reviewed this, but I seem to be wrong. We did, however, mention this book on a couple podcast episodes. This is a fantasy novel with some alternate history thrown in. Overall, readers seemed to love the cast of characters, but warn it’s slow to start.
