We are back in the time machine with HelenKay Dimon and Darby Kane, who are thankfully one person so we have extra room in the cabin for snacks. And we are headed back to February 2015 to take a look at the ads and features in RT magazine. We talk about writing, RWA history (HelenKay is past president, immediately before the fuckery) and what specifically was lost when RWA’s position in the community was destroyed. … Continue reading 667. The Summer Escape by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! I feel like Shalvis is one of the queens of small town romances. The cover is beautifully aspirational; I’m a sucker for mountains. This is book six in the Sunrise Cove series.

Love and Other Conspiracies makes many references to one of my favorite shows, The X-Files. Sadly, this book about a believer and a skeptic making a web series is no X-Files. It’s not terrible, but it is, alas, boring. The story is told from the heroine Hallie’s point of view in first-person, present tense, henceforth referred to as FPPT. I may need to make a rule that I don’t review books written in FPPT anymore … Continue reading Love and Other Conspiracies by Mallory Marlowe →
Hello and happy Wednesday! What a week it’s been. It’s been crawling by, mainly because of the allergies. Thank you all for your kind words last week about my potential dress and my complicated Disney feelings. It’s been a interesting thing to work through with my therapist in regards to the ways I get to experience things that felt off-limits to me as a kid. Have any of you experience something similar? … PC Gamer interviewed … Continue reading Links: ASMR, Audiobooks, & More →

RECOMMENDED: People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry is $4.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! I feel like Henry’s romances rarely go on sale. Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B:
Because of the structure of the book, the focus on Poppy’s character growth, and the happy for now ending, I think readers will enjoy this book most if they approach it as romantic comedy. The banter alone makes this book a fun read, not to mention the locations and the supporting characters. Pack a bookmark and have a good time.

I picked up this book for its cover. The blue really spoke to me. Plus it was on sale. That’s two things in its favour. Not a very substantial reason to start a book, but it is what it is. Now that I’ve read it, I can list a few more things it has going for it, although there are some negatives, too. Dovey van Dalen is a mystic. She was spellbound at 18 and … Continue reading A Trinket for the Taking by Victoria Laurie →

The Bodyguard by Katherine Center is $2.99! I mentioned this one on a previous Hide Your Wallet and was tempted by the bodyguard heroine. However, it’s still in my to-read stack. Have you read this one?

This HaBO comes from Elizabeth, who wants to locate this romance: I’m looking for a Harlequin Presents, enemies to lovers romance that is set in Australia. The heroine is engaged to a guy her whole family hates, and she eventually dumps him when it becomes clear he’s a jerk. I feel like the scene where she realizes she can’t marry her fiance is set on a yacht. Meanwhile, the hero is visiting the heroine’s brother, … Continue reading HaBO: Harlequin Presents Set in Australia →
