Leslie Hachtel and Nikki Brock put together Love In The Mix: A Cookbook for Romance Readers to benefit ProLiteracy, and she joins me to talk about it. Leslie tells me all about the cookbook, how it came to be, and some of her favorite recipes. We discuss family favorites and family history through food, and then, as a bonus, I’ve added info about two favorite recipes for you to try. Over 70 romance authors contributed … Continue reading 480. Love In the Mix: A Cookbook for Romance Readers, with Leslie Hachtel →

Anchored Hearts by Priscilla Oliveras is $2.99! This is book two in the Keys to Love series and has a second chance romance. This isn’t my favorite trope, but I enjoyed this book. If you like really emotional contemporaries, this will tick that box.

Editor’s note: Please note that this is not an invitation to debate abortion in the comments. Any attempts to do so will be removed. This request came from S.A. Thanks for submitting this one: Do you have any recommendations for romances where heroines have had or are considering an abortion — sort of the reverse of the “secret baby” trope? I saw your review for Knit, Purl, a Baby and a Girl by Hettie Bell, … Continue reading The Rec League: Abortion in Romance →
Hey hey! It’s Wednesday! I personally can’t believe it. The days are going by rather quickly, at least for me. This Saturday, I’m getting my third tattoo based on one of my favorite horror movies, The Witch. I am more nervous about having to rent a car in Boston to make it to the shop, which is a couple hours out of the city. Wish me luck! I also feel like we’re beginning the slow, miserable … Continue reading Links: Board Games, Photography, & More →

The Lady and Her Monsters by Roseanne Montillo is $1.99! This is part biography and part sciene, as Montillo weaves in Mary Shelley’s experience working on Dr. Frankenstein and the science behind it. Carrie mentioned it her Mary Shelley birthday post, but warns of animal cruelty.

Holiday Fakeout is 99c! This anthology just dropped and features over 20 romances with fake dating during the holidays. Talk about catnip! If I did my math correctly with the listed page count, each story is 100 pages or slightly more.

This HaBO is from Michelle, who wants to find this American historical romance: I’m looking for some help finding the name of a book that I read in the early 90s. It may have been published in the mid to late 80s as it was part of my Mom’s book stash. The setting is the American Old West when railroads were still fairly new-ish. The male main character may have been either raised by an … Continue reading HaBO: Train Bridge Collapse →

RECOMMENDED: Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell is $2.99! Ellen read this one and gave it an A-:
If you enjoy sci-fi, arranged marriage/marriage of convenience stories, courtly intrigues, and/or slow-burn romance, I think Winter’s Orbit is a great choice.

I’ve always loved The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, the 1947 film about a widow who falls in love with the ghost of a sea captain, but I greatly dislike a certain plot complication that occurs near the end of the movie. The Ghost and Mr. Moore is a gender-swapped version of the story that avoids the complication and is entirely optimistic, with love conquering all. It’s a warm, sweet, comforting story with solid storytelling and … Continue reading The Ghost and Mr. Moore by Wendy Dalrymple →

Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven is $1.99! I gave this one a C-, but I’d still recommend it with large caveats. 1) All of the trigger warnings. 2) It’s dense and the slow burn is quite slow. 3) There’s a magical infertility cure. Draven’s writing is always top notch and I’m curious about the next book, which follows a different couple.
