Crystal Anne With An E comes to us from a sunny clime, though she is an indoor cat that prefers to remain pale. She is an autism consultant by day, and recently completed a degree in information science, mostly because she could and it was fun. She likes to read (obviously), watch TV while cross-stitching something geeky, play video games, beg her plants not to die in the hell heat of summer, and walk while … Continue reading Guest Post: The Library Advisory Board, or How I Didn’t Throw Away My Shot →

A few weeks ago I did a podcast interview with Nakia from WildStar Fibers about her Romancelandia yarn collection. The collection was very popular and more than a few of you asked about purchasing some. The yarn collection had been available for pre-order and the pre-order period had ended, BUT! I just got an email from Nakia who says… “…this Saturday [19 November] at 10am Pacific: all of the extras from the Romancelandia collection [will be available … Continue reading Romancelandia Yarn! Welcome to Book Beat! Book Beat aims to highlight other books that we may hear about through friends, social media, or other sources. We could see a gorgeous ad! Or find a new-to-us author on a list of underrated romances! Think of Book Beat as Teen Beat or Tiger Beat, but for books. And no staples to open to get the fold-out poster.

RECOMMENDED: The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen is $2.99! Sarah loved this one and gave it an A-:
If you like fantasy with characters that might sound like your neighbors sometimes, in a world with big stakes and little stakes and magical talking animals who deliver the mail, and especially if you like epistolary novels that lead to characters becoming more of themselves, you’ll like this undertaking. (Bad dum bum.)

RECOMMENDED: Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper is $1.99! Ellen gave this one a B:
Overall, this book had many strong elements, with a few minor missteps. I think you pretty much get what you expect in terms of a relatively light, atmospheric, sexy sapphic romance perfect for spooky season. If there are additional series entries, I will absolutely be reading them.

We have a very special request from Brittni. Thanks so much for sending this one in: About four years ago, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (type 2–yes, there are multiple types). I have been struggling with the illness since I was 12, and having a name for it, and medication to take, has been a blessing. However, the only representation I’ve see in the media of my illness is Kanye West and plots where … Continue reading The Rec League: Bipolar Representation →
Welcome back to Wednesday Links! By the time you’re reading this, I’ll be on a train back from NYC. My roommate was nominated for an award and graciously asked me to be her plus one. It was a nice night of yummy appetizers and an open bar on a covered, rooftop deck. We also were craving chocolate, so we grabbed some peanut butter M&Ms and Dove chocolates at a Duane Reade. Not a bad way … Continue reading Links: Subreddits, Imprints, & More →

Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! Sarah mentioned in on a Hide Your Wallet and we’re all very curious about this historical fantasy with potentially dark, witchy lesbians. Carrie gave this one a C+ and take care to check the content warnings.
