552. Contemporary Romance, RomComs, and Grief with Melonie Johnson
Not all contemporary romances are romcoms, but many are, and Melonie Johnson joins me this week to talk about both, and about her new romcom, Too Wrong to Be Right. She too wrote a character who works in the funeral industry, so we talk a bit about that, too! The talk about different burial options and discussion of the funeral industry starts at 14 minutes in. We also touch on burnout in the publishing industry, … Continue reading 552. Contemporary Romance, RomComs, and Grief with Melonie Johnson

Radiance by Grace Draven is $1.99! This was a previous book club pick on the site and a fantasy romance. I remember really liking this one, especially the beginning dynamics between the hero and heroine. Have you read it?
Whatcha Watching? Give us your TV, Film, and Streaming Recs!
I received an email from K, who asked, “I was wondering if you could do a TV show or Movie recommendation list. I have a few shows I’d like to share and I’m looking for new ones to try.” Yes, we can! In fact, we’ll do it more than once! I know it’s the start of a new month, and we just shared all the books we’re planning on reading, but I’m also curious about what … Continue reading Whatcha Watching? Welcome back to Wednesday Links, everyone! Today is moving day for me! Can’t wait for a bigger place to entertain friends (and also get back to our in-person D&D session). In terms of video games, I picked up Kena: Bridge of Spirits a week or so ago and really enjoy it. Definitely tough at some spots, but you can give your little friends different hats to wear. I am also pleased to announce that February is … Continue reading Links: Fran Fine, Cocktails, & More

RECOMMENDED: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir is $1.99. AJ and I did a lot of squeeing about this one on a podcast episode. Will you understand what’s going on? Probably not, but you’ll have a lot of fun being clueless. I also gave it a B+:
Gideon the Ninth is a unique and bloody bananapants book, and I do think it’s worth a reader’s curiosity. Gideon is an unforgettable protagonist.
Elyse Watches The Bachelor–S27 E6: We’re All Like WTF
It’s time for The Bachelor, everyone! I could be doing more fun things, like taxes or getting a pap smear, but Pudding and I are here to serve you! Pudding: Whatever. Wake me up when this nonsense is done. We’re in Tallinn, Estonia. The ladies walk around clapping their hands and yelling, “Where are ya Zach?” like he’s a lost dog. We learn Greer has covid but is asymptomatic so she’s isolating. Charity gets a one-on-one … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor–S27 E6: We’re All Like WTF

Try a sample of the first chapter; it hooked me instantly from the first paragraph and never let go. The Widow of Rose House is close to perfection and any lover of historical romance will adore this debut.
Help A Bitch Out
HaBO: He Carries Around a Defibrillator
This HaBO comes from Sarah, who hopes to track down this book: I hope you can help this smart bitch out. I read a book in the last 20 years where the main character was trying to leave her husband. He had become so paranoid about dying that he carried a briefcase with a defibrillator in it. I could be misremembering what he carried in the briefcase, maybe he carried a fire extinguisher and he … Continue reading HaBO: He Carries Around a Defibrillator
