Falling into Bed with a Duke

After many season pass her by without the hint of actual love, the super wealthy Minerva Dodger embraces her spinsterhood. But the idea of a club called The Nightingale might be a way to blow off some steam. She can mask her identity while getting some much needed pleasure…based solely on desire, not her dowry. The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath

The Earl Takes All

This was one of Sarah’s picks for this month’s Hide Your Wallet, and boy howdy, was it cringey. (Sarah: “DAMMIT.”) Edward, younger identical twin brother of the Earl of Greyling has come home from a trip to Africa where his brother has been killed in an accident. Instead of coming home as Edward, though, he’s pretending to be his brother (Albert), because Julia, his brother’s wife, is pregnant, and Albert, as he lay dying, told Edward to pretend … Continue reading The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath

Falling Into Bed With a Duke by Lorraine Heath

Falling into Bed with a Duke

Confession time: I have never read a Lorraine Heath book until Falling Into Bed With a Duke. Clearly this was a mistake on my part. When I picked up this book, I wanted something that would pull me out of crappy day and the dead mouse smell that we couldn’t pinpoint in the office. So I took this book to the coffee shop, grabbed a cup of English breakfast, and proceeded to get lost in the … Continue reading Falling Into Bed With a Duke by Lorraine Heath

Historicals on Sale: A Lorraine Heath Trilogy and a Jennifer McQuistion Novel

Books on Sale: Diary of an Accidental Wallflower by Jennifer McQuiston & More

Diary of an Accidental Wallflower by Jennifer McQuiston is $1.99 right now. This is the first book in McQuiston’s new series, Seduction Diaries, and it has a 3.92-star average on GoodReads. Readers who enjoyed it loved that the hero was of a lower social class than the heroine, but wasn’t hung up on his own worthiness. He’s a doctor, and she sprains her ankle right before the season starts. Several readers also describe McQuiston’s books as their new favorite comfort reads – now that’s a huge compliment!

The Last Wicked Scoundrel by Lorraine Heath

The Last Wicked Scoundrel

This story could have made an excellent full length novel.   The tale begins with a two page journal entry written by the hero detailing his entire backstory.  If this was a novel, it would have taken chapters but to keep the page count down the author tells us everything we need to know about him in 3 pages.  Starting a book off by showing not telling tends to drive me crazy. Our heroine, the Duchess … Continue reading The Last Wicked Scoundrel by Lorraine Heath

Books on Sale: The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan & More

RECOMMENDED: The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan is .99 right now. This is a much-loved historical – both Carrie S and RedHeadedGirl gave it an A. Carrie wrote about how much she loved the disparate styles of the hero and heroine who used different means to achieve the same goal of hiding in plain sight: “Oliver survives by blending, but Jane survives by clashing with her surroundings as much as possible without openly breaching decorum.”

And RedHeadedGirl wrote in her review, “COURTNEY MILAN HOW DO YOU BRAIN.

There was NOT A GOOD GODDAMN THING I DID NOT LIKE ABOUT THIS BOOK.  Nothing.”

So, yeah, they recommend it.

Books on Sale: Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas & More

RECOMMENDED: Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas is $2.99 at Amazon, $5.69 at Google Play, and $5.99 at BN and elsewhere. The price matching fairies must be dizzy at this point.

This book has a four-star average and is the first in the Wallflowers quartet, one of the best series Kleypas has written. It focuses on four friends who for various reasons are very low on marriage prospects. The first book features Annabelle, who is trying to save her family by marrying a nobleman, and Simon who is in trade, and is among the most wealthy men in London.

I really liked this book because Annabelle and Simon both have to realize their own prejudices and snobbery (more on Annabelle’s side with that issue), and both deal with social expectations, too.

In today's guest post, publicist Jessie Edwards tells us why she loves Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath. Lorraine Heath's ebooks are on sale, but the sale expires today. I thought I'd highlight another series that received very high review averages at Goodreads, though just about all of Heath's books are well-regarded online. (This makes me wonder what rock I was living under that I have missed so many historical romances of such quality. I love historical romance.) … Continue reading Books on Sale: Scoundrel-Filled Historicals from Lorraine Heath

Just Wicked Enough by Lorraine Heath

Just Wicked Enough by Lorraine Heath

When I wrote last week about reading a paperback and compared that experience to The Kindle-Ade, this is the book I was talking about. I grabbed this book as fast as I could because I had to complete the Act of Congress that it takes to move my posse around on the weekend and make sure I had something to read in the car. Just Wicked Enough is a American heiress/impoverished lord historical, and I … Continue reading Just Wicked Enough by Lorraine Heath
