NB: Welcome to Flashback Friday! We’re taking it back to where Elyse’s Elizabeth Hoyt fangirling all began. She recently loved the latest Maiden Lane book, Duke of Sin, and it’s pretty awesome to revisit her thoughts on the very first romance in the Maiden Lane series. This post was originally published September 26, 2013. Oh my God, you guys. I think I’ve read my first crack book. The one that has some crazy going on and some plot elements … Continue reading Wicked Intentions by Elizabeth Hoyt →
NB: Though Qualisign gives Sweetest Scoundrel a B as a standalone, she gives it an A- if being read as part of the Maiden Lane series. For the second year in a row, I have misread the date for the first of my two RITA reviews and have had to play catch up after the rest of the participants in this section have sent in their reviews. From the wrong side of the missed deadline, I can only … Continue reading Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt →
I have been waiting for this book for SO LONG and it was worth it. Every time Hoyt released a book in the Maiden Lane series I would gobble it up and then whine on Twitter “But when is Val’s book coming?” Well, it’s here now and it’s 100% what I was hoping for. Duke of Sin by Elizabeth Hoyt is one of those books that worked for me on all levels, but I can … Continue reading Duke of Sin by Elizabeth Hoyt →

RECOMMENDED: The Marriage Contract by Katee Robert is 99c! This is an arranged marriage plot in a modern setting, which I would love to see more of! The book does deal with characters in the mob, which I know is a big off-button for some readers, so FYI. Elyse’s review came out today and she gave it an A:
If you had told me that I’d really love a book about the children of two Boston mob bosses being in an arranged marriage, I’d have raised a skeptical eyebrow. But I’m so so glad that The Marriage Contract proved me wrong because I enjoyed it immensely.

The issue with Sweetest Scoundrel is that while it is well-written and has generally likeable characters who behave honorably, it was colossally boring. Eve Dinwoody is a quiet person with an unattractive face who enjoys being alone. She is prim and proper and she paints miniatures. Her half brother asks her to oversee an investment he’s made, so she ends up crossing paths with Asa Makepeace, the roguish proprietor of Harte’s Folly – a pleasure … Continue reading Sweetest Scoundrel by Elizabeth Hoyt →

RECOMMENDED: Wishes by Jude Deveraux is $1.99 at Amazon! Some readers admittedly thought this was a pretty odd book, but this is what Sarah had to say:
This is one of my favorite cracktastic historicals. The heroine has a “fairy godmother” who is actually a New York socialite who died and is in purgatory. To enter heaven she has to make the heroine’s life better. At one point she takes a break from her fairy-godmothering and conjures up a year’s worth of People magazine, which totally made my teenage heart explode with envy.

I love Elizabeth Hoyt. Everything she writes is Elyse Crack. True story, at RT, I showed up at the awards after-party in my pajamas just to have her sign my book and fangirl at her for awhile. I even snagged a glass of champagne from a waiter who was deeply confused as to why I was attending in my PJ bottoms, space cat tee shirt, and no bra. I am from Smart Bitches, sir. This … Continue reading Dearest Rogue by Elizabeth Hoyt →
I jumped at reviewing this book for the RITA® Reviewer Challenge because I just happened to be in the middle of reading the Maiden Lane series. This series mostly centers on a poor part of London called St. Giles and the problems gin has caused for that area. And most of the guy characters wear wigs, which I find so not attractive. But I’ve highly enjoyed the series. It has such a diverse set of … Continue reading Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt →

The Raven Prince by Elizabeth Hoyt is $3.99 right now. All three novels in the Princes series are $3.99, in fact. This book is much loved by historical romance readers, and has a 4-star average on GoodReads. Readers who love it especially like that the hero and heroine are both a bit unconventional: neither of them is superbly good-looking, a fact that has influenced their lives in several ways, and both are over thirty.

Both Elyse and I had Things To Say, so here you are, a joint review! Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt is a Georgian Beauty and the Beast story and is book seventh book in her Maiden Lane series. The beast in question is Apollo Greaves, Viscount Killbourne. Apollo has recently escaped from Bedlam after being imprisoned for years, falsely convicted of killing three men. Now that he’s out, he’s low on funds and is posing … Continue reading Darling Beast by Elizabeth Hoyt →

This RITA® Reader Challenge 2014 review was written by Aorist. This story was nominated for the RITA® in the Historical Romance category. The summary: WHEN A MASKED MAN . . . Twenty years ago Maximus Batten witnessed the brutal murders of his parents. Now the autocratic Duke of Wakefield, he spends his days ruling Parliament. But by night, disguised as the Ghost of St. Giles, he prowls the grim alleys of St. Giles, ever on … Continue reading RITA Reader Challenge: Duke of Midnight by Elizabeth Hoyt →
