A yellow street sign that says WTF?

Updated as of 1.15.20 4:00pm EST – jump to latest: More information has come to light about the audit of RWA’s actions, which is being run by Carol Ritter. New post: Where Does RWA Go From Here?   One of the reasons I believed in RWA was because I saw how hard my friend, Courtney Milan, worked to push the organization’s inclusiveness. Today, the day before Christmas Eve, RWA notified her they’d agreed with ethics … Continue reading WTAF, RWA: Courtney Milan Banned, Suspended From RWA

Guest Review: Mrs Martin’s Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan

Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure

This guest review is by Catherine Heloise. Previously, Catherine ranted about Shakespearean rockstars and loved Chase Me by Laura Florand. She has a food blog called Cate’s Cates, where she creates allergy-friendly treats, and she also runs the Stories Under Paris website, where she creates fictional stories based on the names of Paris Metro stations. How cool is that? … This novella gets an A for all the fun. Courtney Milan’s new novella, Mrs Martin’s Incomparable … Continue reading Guest Review: Mrs Martin’s Incomparable Adventure by Courtney Milan

325. “The Most Brilliant Storytelling I’ve Ever Seen:” Courtney Milan and Yuri!!! on Ice

Of all the things I could talk to Courtney Milan about, I think the best topic would be…figure skating. Specifically, Yuri!!! On Ice. Yuri!!! on Ice is an anime that contains multitudes, and it has been making Courtney happy for awhile now. So I asked her to tell me all about Yuri!!! on Ice. We discuss what she loves about the show, and how the narrative structure of Yuri!!! has illuminated for her elements of … Continue reading 325. “The Most Brilliant Storytelling I’ve Ever Seen:” Courtney Milan and Yuri!!! on Ice

After the Wedding by Courtney Milan

After the Wedding

After the Wedding is the second novel in the Worth Saga, the story of a family trying to survive after disgrace. This book is the story of Camilla, the second oldest sister in a family of five siblings, and Adrian, a biracial man who runs a business and who becomes involved with Camilla in an extremely unexpected way. The first novel in the Worth Saga, Once Upon a Marquess , introduced us to the oldest sister, … Continue reading After the Wedding by Courtney Milan

Hamilton’s Battalion by Rose Lerner, Courtney Milan, and Alyssa Cole

Hamilton’s Battalion

Hamilton’s Battalion is a wonderful trio of romance novellas set in America during or immediately following the Revolutionary War. I don’t think I’ve ever before found a romance anthology in which all the stories were equally well written. I had high expectations for Courtney Milan and Alyssa Cole, because I’m a fan of their other work, and they did not disappoint. I’ve never read anything by Rose Lerner before, but her novella was also wonderful. … Continue reading Hamilton’s Battalion by Rose Lerner, Courtney Milan, and Alyssa Cole

Books on Sale: The Vixen and the Vet by Katy Regnery & More

READER RECOMMENDED: The Vixen and the Vet by Katy Regnery is $2.99 at Amazon! This contemporary romance was previously nominated for a RITA® in the Long Contemporary category and is a Beauty & the Beast retelling. During the RITA® Reader Challenge, Reader Erica gave the book a B:

I really did enjoy the hell out of this book. I really did. I loved Asher. I liked Savannah, I felt like she and I would be buddies. I was rooting for them together and I fully believe in this happily-ever-after (*cough* even though it happens too quickly *cough*), and I’m sure out there in this fictional world, they are together and doing good things. This was not a magic hoo-ha cures your PTSD story, and for that I am grateful.

Her Every Wish by Courtney Milan

Her Every Wish

I had a hard time getting into Her Every Wish, and I know that it’s not about HEW, it’s about me. We all have tropes we dislike—also attitudes, characters, and tone. None of these things was a major issue, yet some shade of each made the novella a slog for me at times, particularly in the opening chapters. Needless to say, my reaction made grading problematic as well. I really love Courtney Milan’s writing. Her … Continue reading Her Every Wish by Courtney Milan

Guest Squee: Trial by Desire by Courtney Milan

Trial by Desire

NB: Have we mentioned that we love a good squee? Because we do. We love hearing about which books made you feel absolutely over the moon, or ones that you’ve connected with on deep, emotional levels.  This particular squee comes from Poppy. Poppy is a long-time fan of SBTB and loves cats, books and coffee, in that order. There is also a trigger warning at the beginning of the review, but in case you miss it … Continue reading Guest Squee: Trial by Desire by Courtney Milan

Hold Me by Courtney Milan

Hold Me

Hold Me is both very ambitious and very uneven. We here at the Bitchery are unabashed Courtney Milan fans, to the point where I cannot possibly read a Milan book without both bias in its favor and very high expectations. As with all Milan books, I squeed repeatedly while reading, but the overall reading experience was not as enjoyable as I hoped it would be. Hold Me involves Jay, a physicist, who is super duper … Continue reading Hold Me by Courtney Milan

Her Every Wish by Courtney Milan

Her Every Wish

Prepare for squee, because Courtney Milan has a new novella out. I feel I can safely say that we Bitches lost all our objectivity regarding Milan’s work ages ago – we are gibbering fans. That being said, while all Milan works are ahead of the general curve, some Milan works are better than other Milan works. I thoroughly enjoyed this novella, but felt it was, quality-wise, in the middle of the pack: interesting, moving, and … Continue reading Her Every Wish by Courtney Milan
