RECOMMENDED: We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix is $2.99! In fact, a few of Hendrix’s horror novels are on sale right now. Carrie read this one and gave it an A-:
It’s a fantastic celebration of music, it has great characters, it’s funny and sad and awful and terrifying and hurrah and feminist, and it is all about how our passions can save our souls.

Crystal Anne with An E comes to us from a sunny clime, but prefers to remain a pale indoor cat. She enjoys reading, cross-stitching something nerdy, going to see live music, and playing video games. She works as an autism consultant by day, got a degree in information science for fun, and currently serves on her local library advisory board. … Sometimes, you find the right book at the exact right time. It’s not the … Continue reading Charm City Rocks by Matthew Norman →

RECOMMENDED: The Boxing Baroness by Minerva Spencer is $2.99! Carrie reviewed this and gave it B+:
The more grounded in history the novel was, the more I liked it. For instance, I enjoyed seeing how Marianne trained every day. However, people with more patience for plot than I will love the same increasing complications that just made me want to take a nap. There’s something here for everyone and I look forward to the next book, The Dueling Duchess.

This HaBO is from Nakiya, who is looking for this romance: I believe the book started off with the heroine being in a coffee shop. She see’s the hero and he’s looking at her too. She doesn’t anything. I don’t remember if he puts a card in a bowl (like a jar or bulletin board where people put their business cards). And I don’t remember if they interacted or not, but and the end of … Continue reading HaBO: She Finds Out He’s an Escort →

August is here and it begins on a Tuesday! It’s a pretty sparse week for us in terms of books we’re looking forward to. When peeping at our New Release spreadsheet, it feels like our weeks alternate between slow and heavy for new books. What’s your own new release list looking like? The same? Or is it slow/busy all month?

RECOMMENDED: Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines is $1.99! This urban fantasy novel combines things that a lot of us love: books and magic. Back when Carrie was a guest reviewer, she gave this book an A- grade and said it had a “fantastic concept.” Adam, Sarah’s husband, also says:
People who like fantasy in general will like this, but if you have any kind of literary nerd fandom, you will find Easter eggs in there.

Welcome back to Cover Snark! Elyse: What are these people doing? Tara: I think he’s about to roll his mouth across hers. Carrie: This is why you have to practice on pillows, you guys. Sarah: If it weren’t for their hands I would swear they were photographed in two separate locations very far apart. Sarah: I love love love the illustration, the poses of the character is and the SMOLDER on that face, MY GOSH. … Continue reading Cover Snark: Tricky Fonts Strike Again! →

It’s hot here this week (I guess it’s kind of hot everywhere, but if I think about that too much my climate change anxiety spirals). To beat the heat, I put a squeeze up treat in the freezer to feed to Lady P like a popsicle. …a shrimp and scallop flavored popsicle. Pudding: Delicious! It’s probably hot on The Bachelorette  too because everyone is in New Orleans. There are six guys left and the four that remain … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S20 E5: Dinner of Awkwardness →

The Blighted Stars  is the first book in a science fiction series that has a strong romantic subplot. There is a creepiness factor that might be unsettling for some readers, and while it didn’t bother me, I would caution anyone with an aversion to zombie movies to stay away. In this sci-fi world, humans have achieved a longer lifespan by “printing” their neural map into a new body when the old one dies. Think of … Continue reading The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe →
