This Rec League request comes from Rose. Thanks, Rose! I’m looking for a romance series that contains a mystery of some sort that spans the length of the series, i.e. is introduced in the first book in the series, clues and whatnot (say, murder) happen and are given throughout the books in the series, and then it is solved in the last book of the series. BUT, I want the heroine/hero to be different in … Continue reading The Rec League: An Ongoing Mystery with Standalone Romances→
Even though at first I found this book to be slow going, I came to appreciate it for its intersectional feminism and its unabashed adoration of all the science and math that goes into making space flight possible.
Good morning, everyone! It’s a slow content day today so you all get to enjoy Wednesday Links a little early. It’ll pair just as well with your morning coffee or tea, as it does with your mid-afternoon snack break. Calling all gamers! I’m all the Baldur’s Gate 3 train for now. Is anyone else joining me? I have my eyes on the posh elf rogue for my romance character. Trying to avoid mentioning any spoilers! However, … Continue reading Links: Sloths, Book Clubs, & More→
This book messed me up. Yes, I read it while I was going through a rough time, but the point stands: this is an emotionally intense book. The problem is that it is so well-written that it’s also un-put-downable so the emotional intensity is unrelenting.
This HaBO comes from Amberly, who is looking for this historical romance: I am in desperate need of help, as many are. This book is driving me crazy. I remember so many small details, but nothing concrete enough to google! This is a summary of what I remember: The book was a historical romance. The heroine was a sort of plain Jane lady-in-waiting to her higher class friend/possible cousin. They attended events during courtship season. … Continue reading HaBO: Heroine Keeps Shy Friend Away from Rakish Hero→

Jana Goes Wild by Farah Heron is $4.99! This is Heron’s latest and was recommended on Hide Your Wallet. I remember Sarah being curious about the setting. Did any of you pick this up?
Let’s look at some appealing covers! Maya: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Elyse: Oh the classic gothic vibe! I love it! Sneezy: JESUS! Carrie: The skirt, the composition – and is that a filter that gives it that look of old film? Cause that’s AMAZING. Sarah: The designer and artist get all the praise from me. This is a flawless cover. Cover art by Jyotirmayee Patra Sarah: This is a lovely cover. As Amanda and I were discussing late … Continue reading Cover Awe: Beautiful Borders→
This week is hometowns on The Bachelorette, the episode Pudding and I hate most. Why? The contestants take the Bachelorette back to their hometown and introduce her to their family, thereby dragging them into this reality BS as well. And it’s always the same thing: the families wonder “how can you fall in love with multiple people at once?” Then the Bachelorette cries because this is getting really hard, and my head hurts from rolling my … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S20 E6: Knitting Date→

TW: rape, racism, mob violence, murder, anti-semitism This month’s Kickass Woman is a woman of complex morals who, despite making a lavish living through crime, was adored in Harlem during the Harlem Renaissance. Stephanie St. Clair, known as Queenie, ran a numbers racket throughout the 1920s and 30s and kept control of it despite efforts of the Mafia and the Law to take her down. She was also a civil rights activist, who invested in … Continue reading Kickass Women in History: Stephanie St. Clair→
