Whatcha Reading? August 2023, Part Two

Featured image for Whatcha Reading? August 2023, Part Two

Welcome back to Whatcha Reading! It’s our last one for August. Here’s what we’re capping off the month with: Lara: I’m more forgiving when comes to rereading books from the keeper shelf, especially when they divert from my current tastes. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder has more violence in it than I usually like now, some asshole behavior from the male lead, and less focus on the romance, but I adore this book. And … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? August 2023, Part Two

Books on Sale: Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese & More

Two Wrongs Make a Right by Chloe Liese is $2.99! Carrie reviewed this one and gave it a B-:

Two Wrongs Make a Right is inspired, very loosely, by Much Ado About Nothing. It lacks most of the conflict of the play, but has its own charm. What you really need to know is that this is a cute book with neurodivergent characters and a fake-dating romance that is endearing if not fully believable.

Stash Busting with Lady Pudding

I achieved SABLE (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy) a long time ago. Some people can only buy yarn when they know the specific project they’ll use it for. Not me, I buy yarn when I see it and it’s pretty and squishy, and then I figure out what I’m going to do with it later. Since I knit a lot of socks and shawls, most of my stash is in fingering or sock yarn weight. … Continue reading Stash Busting with Lady Pudding

577. Killing Folks with Deanna Raybourn

Deanna Raybourn is back, and we’re talking about some of the unusual methods used to kill folks in Killers of a Certain Age –and there are mild plot spoilers for that book, please be aware. We also talk about the images she receives from fans of her series, and the larger context of why there’s a sense of catharsis reading about terrible people meeting terrible ends. TW/CW: I mention lice when talking about networks of … Continue reading 577. Killing Folks with Deanna Raybourn

Book Review

Hey, Hun by Emily Lynn Paulson

Hey, Hun

Hey, Hun: Sales, Sisterhood, Supremacy, and the Other Lies Behind Multilevel Marketing felt right up my alley, despite not reading a ton of non-fiction. I watch a lot of anti-scam and anti-MLM content on YouTube and many podcasts I listen to fall into this category; it’s often the background noise while I’m gaming or reading. Hey, Hun tries to walk a fine line between gossipy memoir and cautionary tale and to me, failed on both … Continue reading Hey, Hun by Emily Lynn Paulson

The Rec League: Happy to Be Fated & Mated

The Rec League - heart shaped chocolate resting on the edge of a very old book

This Rec League is from Clare. Thanks, Clare! So I’m reading another shifter fated mates book and the heroine is all up in arms again that fate is dictating to her. Are there any books with dated mates where a protagonist is just like, oh thank goodness I don’t have to think or wonder or stress, this is just my person and now I don’t have to date anymore? Like, as a person with anxiety, … Continue reading The Rec League: Happy to Be Fated & Mated

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.

Hey all! It’s time for Wednesday Links! I have breaking news and that all of the new MMORPGs I was excited for have been derailed by picking up Final Fantasy XIV again. Oops! Don’t you hate it when that happens? My audiobook hold for Perils of Pleasure just came in at the library. Did you know I’ve never read Julie Anne Long before? I inhaled the Maiden Lane series by Elizabeth Hoyt on audio a few years ago and … Continue reading Links: Book Tours, Non-Fiction, & More
