Cover Snark: More Reader Submissions

Mated to Mek by Tamsin Ley. A blue spacey cover with a man embracing a woman from the back. However, the biggest issue is the title font. The K in Mek is blocky and looks more like an H, making the title seem like Mated to Meh.

Welcome back to Cover Snark! From Lisa: I feel bad nominating this cover for Cover Snark because the artwork is actually pretty good. There are no disembodied heads, intimidating nipples or concerning skin conditions. But! Why that font? Ever since I spotted it, I keep reading it as “Mated to Meh.” I cannot let that go. Elyse: Mek is the sound I’m making looking at the cover. Sarah: This sounds like a reddit post: “AITA … Continue reading Cover Snark: More Reader Submissions

September is here and that means it’s time for a new Whatcha Reading! We want to hear how you’re kicking off this month, reading-wise. Books on Sale: Someone in Time by Jonathan Strahan & More

RECOMMENDED: Someone in Time edited by Jonathan Strahan is 99c! Thank you to everyone who let us know about this one. Carrie gave this one an A:

I can’t remember the last time I read an anthology in which every story touched me so much. Some have happy endings and some do not, but all of them are deeply affirming of the idea that human relationships, specifically romantic ones, are important.

579. Punk Rock Writing with Chuck Tingle

Dr. Chuck Tingle is back! My episode with Chuck Tingle from 2016 remains one of my most popular, and I was very excited to have Chuck back on the show while he was in the middle of his tour for Camp Damascus. We’re going to talk about eliciting joy, proving love, the three most maligned genres and why they’re denigrated, and Chuck’s ever-evolving trot as an artist and a person. Thank you to Caroline Perny … Continue reading 579. Punk Rock Writing with Chuck Tingle

The Rec League: Mysterious, Spooky-Adjacent Romances

The Rec League - heart shaped chocolate resting on the edge of a very old book

This Rec League comes from Sarahjane: Was listening to (and loving, as usual) the latest podcast and have a bit of a Rec League request. I’d love to find more books that have a plot of “We main characters find ourselves on the fringes of spooky/mysterious/magical/alien shenanigans and must solve the mystery (or defeat the aliens or banish the ghosts, etc.) One of my big favorites is KJ Charles’ Magpie Lord series. I especially love … Continue reading The Rec League: Mysterious, Spooky-Adjacent Romances

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.

Welcome back to Wednesday Links! For those who had a long weekend, was it relaxing? One of my best friends was back in town from Los Angeles and I had such a good time seeing her. I also started listening to audiobooks while I game. Shoutout to Agatha of the She Wore Black podcast for inspiring me to give this a try. I tore through a 10hr book in a little under two days. Now … Continue reading Links: Art, Pet Adoptions, & More
