First Love, Take Two by Sajni Patel is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance where two exes become roommates. We featured this one on a previous edition of Cover Awe. Shana gave this a B-:
Readers who like to root for a couple who are up against a closed-minded community, and who sympathize with an anxious, and occasionally strident heroine, would enjoy First Love, Take Two. If you’re looking for a standalone romance, low angst, and a couple with stellar communications skills, this might not be for you. Either way, my fellow foodies will want platters of buttermilk biscuits and tacos at hand while you read.

Death Comes to the Village by Catherine Lloyd
I read about book 3 in this series, Death Comes to Kurland Hall, in the December 2015 issue of Romantic Times, which we’re recapping on the podcast. As I mentioned in Whatcha Reading, like a completely strange human being, I didn’t start with book three. I started with book one, Death Comes to the Village. This review will be mostly about that book, with some warnings about book two, Death Comes to London. A Very Important … Continue reading Death Comes to the Village by Catherine Lloyd

598. Historical Romances for Horse Girls with Mimi Matthews
Mimi Matthews returns to the show to talk about her latest novel, The Lily of Ludgate Hill, which is the third book in her Belles of London series. Among the major themes of this book? PINING. SO MUCH PINING. Which I love. But this is also a book about grief: characters are pining for what was as much as other characters are pining for what could be. So we talk about grief, loss, hope, and … Continue reading 598. Historical Romances for Horse Girls with Mimi Matthews

Midnight Ruin by Katee Robert
CW: I’m going to quote the content note verbatim here: “Midnight Ruin is an occasionally dark and very spicy book that contains violence, murder, blood, guns, pregnancy (not the heroine) and abortion (off-page, not the heroine).” I can’t be trusted to be objective and balanced when the book in question made me gasp repeatedly and then exclaim at my partner that the book was SO GOOD. This book gave me so much Good Book Noise! … Continue reading Midnight Ruin by Katee Robert

Welcome back to Wednesday Links! I enjoyed the long weekend in the States and got some great reading done. I posted up on the couch with my wonderful electric blanket while it snowed outside. I can’t remember the last time I did that. I’m sure I was also motivated by the fact that Final Fantasy XIV servers were down for an entire 24-hours and I needed to fill my time somehow. Did any of you have … Continue reading Links: Terry Pratchett, Bonsai, & More

Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto is $1.99! This is book two in a series, with the first book being Dial A for Aunties. I definitely think these should be read in order as book two builds upon the events of the first.

A Fragile Enchantment by Alison Saft
A Fragile Enchantment is a gentle, cozy fantasy romance (I refuse to use the word romantasy–you can’t make me), and it’s perfect for anyone looking for a romance that’s got a solid conflict, but isn’t angsty. I loved this book. This book is like being wrapped up in a blanket that just came out of the dryer. This book is like drinking the perfect cup of tea while watching it snow outside, knowing you don’t … Continue reading A Fragile Enchantment by Alison Saft

Historical Romances and Magical Realism

RECOMMENDED: The Duke of Dark Desires by Miranda Neville is $1.99! This is the fourth and latest book in the Wild Quartet series. The earlier books also appear to be on sale. Elyse reviewed this and gave it an impressive A grade:
I cannot recommend this book highly enough. As far as historical romances go, it’s got a lot of everything good. The hero and heroine break stereotypes and are fully fleshed characters. There’s intrigue and eroticism aplenty. Just make sure you pace yourself and savor this one.
Help A Bitch Out
HaBO: Ludacris Lyrics
This HaBO is from Renay, who wants to find this audiobook: I am so freaking excited to find this area on your website! I think I found this website like years ago… Possibly, but I can’t remember for sure? If so, I haven’t been on it in forever, and I am thrilled to think that you all may be able to help a bitch out! This is what I can remember…The male lead quotes the … Continue reading HaBO: Ludacris Lyrics
