One Dance with a Duke by Tessa Dare is $1.99! This is the first book in Dare’s Stud Club trilogy and features a horse breeder hero. Readers say this one is slow to start with, but recommend powering through! There is a marriage of convenience aspect that reviewers really enjoyed.

This book is CHARMING. C.H.A.R.M.I.N.G. I devoured it in just over a day and what a beautiful day it was. Emily Wilde is a scholar of the fae, or ‘Folk’ as they’re called in the book. She’s serious, a bit curmudgeonly, dedicated to her studies, and utterly genius when it comes to studying and interacting with the Folk. The Folk are tricky and cunning, with some of them being outright gruesome and vicious. In book … Continue reading Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett →

It’s our first Whatcha Reading of 2024! Are you starting off strong or taking a more casual approach to your TBR pile? Sarah: I’m listening to the Kurland St. Mary Mystery series by Catherine Lloyd, which I learned about in the December 2015 issue of RT. We’re talking about it in this week’s episode, in fact. BUT. BUT! I learned about book three. So like a weirdo I started with book one, and then listened … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? January 2024, Part One →

Pas de Don’t by Chloe Angyal is $2.99! This is a ballet romance and Elyse mentioned it on a previous Hide Your Wallet. I think we initially labeled this one as New Adult, but if you’ve read it, let me know if that’s accurate.

We also take a side trip into JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. You can find the visual aids for this episode right here!

RECOMMENDED: Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep is $1.99! Elyse read this one and gave it a B+:
Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep is the first book in a fantasy series that features a badass female gladiator on a quest to reclaim the throne from her murderous cousin. It’s tremendous fun, although it wraps up quickly.

The Ladies Rewrite the Rules is a “proper,” traditional Regency novel that reminds me of something I might have read years ago from a category line. The heat level stops at smooching and we don’t get a ton of angst or conflict. If you’re looking for a more modern voice (like Sarah MacLean vs Georgette Heyer) this isn’t the book for you. Maxwell Dean is a second son who publishes a booklet identifying wealthy widows … Continue reading The Ladies Rewrite the Rules by Suzanne Allain →

This Rec League comes from our SBTB Patreon Discord, from user LyricLorelei: Does anyone have any good time loop story recs? Or things with showing multiple options/versions of life choices? Amanda: There were a bunch of great recs in the Discord, but I thought opening it up to the larger community would be even better. We had a Rec League on Dual Timelines that may have some overlap here. Elyse: Yes! The Darkness Outside Us … Continue reading The Rec League: Time Loops →
