RECOMMENDED: Accidentally Engaged by Farah Heron is $2.99! Kiki reviewed this one and gave it an A-:
I cannot emphasize enough how hungry this book will make you.
Accidentally Engaged might be my top pick for “don’t read while hungry.” Between our heroine Reena’s bread baking (there’s rye, there’s challah, there’s an ongoing battle with a sourdough starter) and her Indian and East African cooking, I was craving a feast pretty much the whole time I was reading this book.

It’s D for Dick, I’m afraid. Specifically, it was a close up of Beau’s (Joe Davidson) penis which gave me my first genuine (albeit startled) laugh of the movie. Bea (Sydney Sweeney) and Ben (Glen Powell) have a meet cute in a coffee shop and spend a lovely night together. The next day, Bea overhears Ben disparaging her to a friend and so the enemy part of the trope is set. Time passes until it … Continue reading Movie Review: Anyone but You →
Welcome welcome! How are we this week? My partner went on a week-long work trip and has come back with a nasty sickness. The sounds they make in the middle of the night as they’re hacking up something in their body is truly the stuff of nightmares. And, considering that all the menthol cough drops have been sold out everywhere, I’m going to assume it’s going around. Be well out there everyone! I made them … Continue reading Links: Hunger Games, More Awards, & More →
I would just The Bitchery to know that I am postponing reading House of Flame and Shadow to recap this. That’s how much I love you all. We open with Joey (who is a tennis coach) playing tennis with Jesse. Much to my surprise, neither of them are shirtless. We start with a group date and it’s the same stupid date we get every single season where the women dress up like brides. Could we get … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelor–S28 E2: Beef with Michael Bolton →

RECOMMENDED: The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen is still $2.99! Sarah loved this one and gave it an A-:
If you like fantasy with characters that might sound like your neighbors sometimes, in a world with big stakes and little stakes and magical talking animals who deliver the mail, and especially if you like epistolary novels that lead to characters becoming more of themselves, you’ll like this undertaking. (Bad dum bum.)

Nineteen years ago, on 31 January 2005, Smart Bitches began. The site launched with a review for Angel-Seeker by Sharon Shinn and for The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann. We’ve had cover snark and cover awe, helping of bitches out, and, as a neat coincidence, Smart Podcast Trashy Books will publish its 600th episode on Friday 2 February 2024. Celebrations everywhere!! Thank you. The site wouldn’t still be here without you. Our community is welcoming new … Continue reading Happy 19th Anniversary, Smart Bitches! →

RECOMMENDED: Last Night with the Earl by Kelly Bowen is $1.99! This is the second book in the Devils of Dover series, but can be read out of order (I did). The other books are also on sale. I hope Bowen comes back to historical romance. I so loved this book and gave it an A-.
For readers who love slow burn historicals that have a focus on emotional healing, I can’t push this into your hands or onto your e-readers fast enough.

This HaBO is from Alyssa, who wants to find this romance: Hey y’all! There are some spoilers in this ! I’ve read this book before and would love to read it again, but I don’t remember specific details like names of characters, titles, or author. I do remember events in this book. It is not really all that dark but more of a taboo relationship but: It’s an age-gap romance. I think there’s like a … Continue reading HaBO: Tattoo of a World on Fire →

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It’s a week of brand new book releases. I must say that February is looking positively bursting with romance releases, so gird your wallets and get those library hold lists ready. This week, fantasy novels and contemporary romances reign supreme for us. What books are on your list? Any you plan on picking up right on release today?

Savage City by L. Penelope is 99c! Definitely worried this could expire soon. It involves a woman who gets transported to a fantasy world where she’s mistaken for a king’s daughter. Have any of you read this one?

When I first read the description of The City of Stardust, it seemed like a tempting amalgamation of things I love in a quasi-dark academia package. Things I heard and read alluded to a magical mystery, vengeful gods, and a forbidden romance. Yes, I can confirm the book had all of those things, but wow, did it take a lot of time to get things done. Violet Everly knows her family is cursed. Once in … Continue reading The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers →
