This is a guest review from Dora, who has ranted here before. It's actually been a while since I've read a whole lot of romance, so when I decided I was in the mood to try some again, I knew were to start. (And actually picked up The Iron Duke on CarrieS's recommendation!) Before that, though, I had picked up the Crossfire series by Sylvia Day because I was bored and Sam's Club had given me … Continue reading Bared to You by Sylvia Day: A Guest Review from Dora →

The Trouble With Being a Duke by Sophie Barnes, book one in the At the Kingsborough Ball series, is a Regency Cinderella story. I enjoyed the premise—I love the Cinderella trope—but my reaction to the book was lukewarm. Isabella Chilcott is a young woman of marriageable age from a poor family. Her father works for a carriage manufacturer, and money is always tight. Her father’s employer, Mr. Roberts, has taken an interest in Isabella, and … Continue reading The Trouble With Being a Duke by Sophie Barnes →

Check out the cover on this Pride and Prejudice graphic novel – is it not the coolest? My cousin, who I adore, gave me this Pride and Prejudice graphic novel, and when I told SBSarah about it she requested a review. Since my daughter also read it, at least part of it, you get two mini reviews instead of one long one. I'll go first: I have to say that the cover is the best … Continue reading Pride and Prejudice: The Graphic Novel, A Guest Review by CarrieS →

I was once advised to never turn down free stuff. I can see now how problematic that would be. Even free, there are just some things I do not want. Like sexually transmitted diseases, for one. I received At the King’s Command by Susan Wiggs, the first in The Tudor Rose Trilogy, as part of a giveaway. I do own the other two, though I haven’t touched them yet. That should probably give you a … Continue reading At the King’s Command by Susan Wiggs →

Angel on the Ropes is a book that is derailed by its very admirable intentions. It has some gorgeous writing – the descriptions of trapeze work and circus life are breathtaking. It has a solid romance and interesting world building. It is, however, moralistic in the extreme. Eventually the circus stuff and the trapeze stuff and the romance take a very distant backseat to the sermonizing, and that's a shame, because the messages really are … Continue reading Angel on the Ropes by Jill Shultz →
