About the RT Book Blogger Conference
Sarah from Smart Bitches and Jane from Dear Author are collaborating again to organize a one-day conference for book bloggers. So many bloggers attend RT each year that it’s an excellent opportunity to talk with one another about the issues we face, large and small, and to learn from one another.
We hope you’ll join us and share your ideas and perspective. It won’t be awesome without you.
We’ve been working on a schedule that will include discussions and information about the issues we face whether we’ve been reviewing online for years or have just started book blogging. Topics include technology, user experience, revenue opportunities, working with publicists and other people in publishing, blog tours and blog tour operators, organization and efficiency and more. And, if you have a suggestion, we’d love to hear your input!
The RT Book Blogger Conference is a separate event from the RT BookLovers Convention, which is to say, registration for the Book Blogger Conference does not include registration to the RT Convention, and vice versa.
But! If you’re planning to attend RT in Dallas, you can visit RTConvention.com to sign up, register, and get ready!

Here is the schedule for 2015 so far:
Please note that the order of the following events is subject to change.
11:00 – Luncheon & Introductions (Sarah, SBTB, & Jane, DA)
12:00 – Content: Blog Tours and Guest Spots (Jay, Joyfully Jay)
Blog tours and guest spots are common, and you may receive requests to host authors on your blog. Jay will discuss the pros and cons, how to figure out if participation is right for you, and how to make sure you get the most out of hosting a guest appearance.
12:45 – Revenue: Ads, Affiliate, Business Operation (Sarah & Jane)
From affiliate options to advertisement, ad servers and ad brokers, we’ll break down the options should you wish to monetize your blog now, or someday in the future.
1:30 – Break
1:45 – Technology: Tips, Tricks, Plugins, Design & Organization
There are a bazillion plugins and extras for blogs, whether you’re on WordPress, Blogger, or another content management system. We’ll have suggestions for recommended plugins, tips for organizing content, and ways to make your blog easier to manage.
3:15 – Snack
Yum.
3:30 – Working with Publishers: Q&A with publicists, and learning about new books for 2015 (Erin Galloway, PenguinRandomHouse; Morgan Doremus, Sourcebooks; Ariel Tachna, Dreamspinner Press)
What happens when you receive an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) from a publisher? What are their expectations? What are yours? This panel will feature publishing professionals in marketing and publicity who have years of experience working with bloggers. They welcome candid questions and opportunities for discussion. Plus, they’re going to bring an ARC of an upcoming book they’re very excited about for everyone present, so you can take a copy home.
5:00 – Cocktail Hour (Sponsored Most Excellently by Harlequin)
Yum. Also, delicious. And possibly wine. Cheers!
Registration
It’s registration time! Have a look at the conference schedule and if you’d like to join us, we’re looking forward to meeting you!
If the form below isn’t working for you, you can also fill out the registration form online here.
A few important points:
1. Registration is $30.00. Registration is not confirmed until payment is received. The fee covers a half-day of events, with luncheon at the start and a cocktail reception at the end.
2. We’re handling payments via Paypal so as to welcome people who are outside the US who may like to attend and will be paying in currency more colorful than ours. If you’d like to pay via check, please email Sarah.
3. This conference is for book bloggers and book reviewers. You do not have to have your own website or blog. GoodReads reviewers, for example, are welcome.
4. Space is limited and is first-come, first-served.
We are finalizing the schedule of panels, and want to organize a day of discussion that’s worthwhile for everyone. We probably chat online with each other a good part of each day, but seeing one another in person and talking about what we have in common is a powerful thing, and we want to make the most of the time we have. If you have ideas or suggestions for a panel or topic, please let us know. You can email us at sarah@smartbitchestrashybooks.com and jane@dearauthor.com.
