We Are Lady Parts is a British sit-com about an all-girl Muslim punk band, and it is glorious. It is sweet, empowering, and very, very funny with a diverse, female-led cast and some very clever writing. The series runs for six 25-minute episodes written and directed by Nida Manzoor, and we watched the whole thing in a single sitting, alternately cackling with laughter and hiding behind the sofa in an agony of vicarious embarrassment. The … Continue reading We Are Lady Parts, created by Nida Manzoor →

Welcome back to our Eurovision coverage as seen through the eyes of a somewhat sleep-deprived Australian at 5am! This review is absolutely full of links to YouTube clips of the performances, and as always, some of them don’t work in the US. We have done our best to find versions that are visible on both sides of the globe, so if the first clip doesn’t work for you, scroll a little bit further, because the … Continue reading Stuff We Love: Eurovision 2021 →
This guest recommendation comes from Janet Mullany! Janet Mullany is a sometime fiction writer who is a regular contributor for PBS/WETA’s Tellyvisions blog. … A princess steals the heart of the president of the United States. Really, PBS Masterpiece? Is that the best you can do? Because Atlantic Crossing is not some sort of adulterous fairy tale. A production of Norwegian Public Broadcasting (NRK), it tells the story of how Norway’s Crown Princess Märtha, in … Continue reading Guest Recommendation: Atlantic Crossing →
Romance fans, there is a version The Bachelor that isn’t terrible! Let’s visit New Zealand, where at least one man will fall for you when a koala poops in your belly button. My reading took a nosedive as we hit the March pandemic anniversaries, so I turned to television. Every season I try to enjoy The Bachelor, and most years I angrily give up midway and read Elyse’s recaps instead. I want my dating shows … Continue reading Squee: Bachelor New Zealand →
If you’re looking for a new show to savor or binge (or both!) may I suggest Midnight Diner on Netflix(US)? I learned about this show in a Reddit thread (though I wish I could remember which one) likening the peacefulness and relaxing nature of it to Great British Bake Off. I’m not entirely sure that’s accurate. There’s food, and people caring for one another, and more food, but the tone is different from GBBO. That said, … Continue reading Netflix Rec: Midnight Diner →
The Great* An Occasionally True Story, is written and produced by Tony McNamara, who also wrote The Favourite. It’s very easy to tell if you’ll like The Great. Did you like The Favourite? Do you like gorgeous clothes? Do you feel strongly that you would watch Nicholas Hoult do anything at all? Do you enjoy very dry, dark humor and furious women who weaponize sarcasm? If so, you will like The Great, and if not, … Continue reading The Great* An Occasionally True Story →

Ed note: I (Sarah) strongly recommend you open this post in a new tab, then open all the links in subsequent tabs and savor each one individually. It’ll take awhile. It’ll be worth it- trust me. It took me over an hour to edit this, partially because I was making sure the links were accessible geographically, and partially because I was watching song after song. Repeatedly. I am now so high on Eurovision Endorphins I … Continue reading Stuff We Like: Eurovision! →
We love the show Letterkenny for a host of different reasons. Since you might have a bit of time for tv watching, we figured we’d share everything we like about it. Letterkenny started as a series of shorts called “Letterkenny Problems,” which were then turned into a show when Crave, a Canadian subscription channel, picked up the series. Letterkenny is a fictional small town in Ontario, and the show focuses on Wayne, Katy, Daryl, Dan, … Continue reading Letterkenny Appreciation Post →
Welcome to a joint review of The Expanse Season Four. HeatherT is the person who first got me hooked on the show. Over the last few seasons we’ve had many differences over how we interpret characters and plots and which are our favorites but we remain united in our love of Amos and of Chrisjen Avarasala’s fashion choices. If you are new to the Expanse, we suggest starting at the beginning. While we both found … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: The Expanse, Season Four →
This post is not so much about the series, well, it is about the series, but it is also about how I use foreign language shows as one tool in my mental health toolkit. So, please bear with me during the preamble… Reading is my usual method of escapism, but sometimes my brain won’t be still long enough to get into a book. I’ll be pulled out of it with thoughts and reflections I’d rather … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: Her Private Life →
We have a guest Stuff You Should Be Watching from Diana Kirk, who wants to talk about a new Netflix show. Diana Kirk is the author of Licking Flames: Tales of a Half-Assed Hussy, owner of a 92 year old bar called Workers Tavern in Oregon and a five continent world traveler. She enjoys Kozy Shack’s chocolate pudding more than ice cream and talking about girls and politics with her three teenaged boys and hubby … Continue reading Stuff You Should Be Watching: Sex Education →
