Well we’re finally at the end of Katie’s “journey” and it’s a 3 hour long episode. WTF ABC? Have a thought for my mental health. In happier news, Pudding got the final rose. That’s right, she’s officially a foster fail and a new member our family. She also wants to murder me in my sleep because she’s got a little skin infection on her tummy and needs to wear the Cone of Shame. So last … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E10: Three Fucking Hours →

Knitting has brought me a lot of peace and relaxation over the past year, and even when I’ve been too sore with fibro to knit, I’ve enjoyed adding to my ever expanding pattern collection. One of my favorite things is to combine interests, which for me, often means knitting and nerdery (or fandom patterns). In this post I’m going to share some of my favorite fandom related knitting patterns. Please share yours in the comments … Continue reading Knitting the Fandom →
We open the show with Katie saying, “It’s crazy to think one of these guys is gonna be my fiancé.” I agree. It’s Hometowns week, which normally would have the Bachelorette travel to the dudes’ hometowns, but because of Covid, they are flying their families in instead. First up is Blake. He’s from Canada, so they have a Canadian-themed date first. Blake jokes that he keeps maple syrup in his bedside table. They play truth … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E9: We Love Taylor →
Happy Bachelorette night! Somehow we’re cramming Hometowns and The Men Tell All into 2 hours. I’m already tired. [Ed. note: I am, too.] I have a BFC (big fuckin can) of cherry Whiteclaw and Pudding has a new catnip kicker. Judging from her expression she’s already feeling the ‘nip. Also there are like no photos of tonight’s episode. No idea what’s up with that. So we start off with Katie telling Tayshia she’s uncomfortable telling more than … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E8: A Clipshow and Pointless Drama →
The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George is a tropey historical romance with light conflict. Readers looking for a lot of angst probably won’t enjoy this one, while readers looking for a romance with a lot of action and minimal conflict will be fine. It worked totally for me, but lately I’ve needed less darkness and fewer obstacles for the main characters to overcome in my reading. American heiress Violet Crenshaw is in … Continue reading The Devil and the Heiress by Harper St. George →
Welcome to this week’s recap of The Bachelorette. Pudding pre-gamed tonight’s episode and… Well… She’s drunk. Anyway, the first one-on-one date goes to Greg (who already had a one-on-one). Katie (or, rather, a bunch of PAs) set up Katie’s Place Market to look like Pike’s Place Market in Seattle where Katie is from. Katie tries to shoot a raw oyster, gags, and has to spit it out behind a plant. They toss around a fake fish … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E7: Pudding is Drunk →
Welcome to the day of the week where I white-knuckle grip an adult beverage and also my grip on reality as I recap The Bachelorette. But first… An important update.. For those of you who asked, yes, Pudding is still with us although we may have a permanent placement for her in the not too distant future. She is still regal and beautiful and the boss of the house. In addition to Lady P, we’ve … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E6: WOWO →
CW for discussions of sexual assault. Happy Bachelorette Day! I just finished watching a movie where Chris Pratt is a science teacher who time travels to the future to stop an alien apocalypse, and yet somehow I expect tonight’s episode will be worse than that. At least the Worst Chris movie had JK Simmons in it. We open up with Tayshia telling the dudes that Blake will be joining the house. When Blake shows up, … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E5: A Different Type of Bro Code →
We open with a shot of the New Mexico countryside which includes a couple of turkeys, and then Thomas running down a path. Better look out, Thomas. Turkeys are mean and also dumb, and I’ve seen them chase joggers. We cut back to the house where the other guys are talking about how much they dislike Thomas. He admitted he came on the show to be the next Bachelor and despite the fact that the … Continue reading Elyse Watches The Bachelorette–S17 E4: Why the Fuck is He Here Now? →
I am writing this while sleep deprived, guzzling a cold brew, having stayed up all night reading. At some point I remember my husband telling me he was going to bed and me telling him I’d be right up. The next time I looked up I had finished The Last Thing He Told Me and, aside from my reading light, the house was pitch dark. The Last Thing He Told Me is an excellently plotted … Continue reading The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave →
She’s Too Pretty to Burn is an intriguing, but uneven read. It opens like a teen romance, and ends like a thriller, but the transition between the two is jarring and disruptive to the reading experience. It’s also supposed to be inspired by The Portrait of Dorian Grey which I didn’t get at all from the text. The novel centers around three people: Mick, a high school swim star with a troubled home life; Veronica, … Continue reading She’s Too Pretty to Burn by Wendy Heard →
