By the time I read book 3, I was amazed by the creativity in the storylines and surprised that I never felt bored revisiting the same month-long time period. The third book, Not Here to Make Friends, takes that creativity to a new level.
Snake-Eater by T. Kingfisher is $2.49! How serendipitous! This was recently featured on a Get Rec’d post of recommendations that came from a convo I had with KJ Charles.
RECOMMENDED: A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare is 99c! This is the second book in the Spindle Cove series and I absolutely love it. It might be my favorite Dare, but I think I need to read this one and When a Scot Ties the Knot back to back to make a full assessment. Carrie gave this book an A-:

RECOMMENDED: A Fragile Enchantment by Alison Saft is $1.99! Elyse read this one and gave it an A:
A Fragile Enchantment is a gentle, cozy fantasy romance (I refuse to use the word romantasy–you can’t make me), and it’s perfect for anyone looking for a romance that’s got a solid conflict, but isn’t angsty. I loved this book. This book is like being wrapped up in a blanket that just came out of the dryer. This book is like drinking the perfect cup of tea while watching it snow outside, knowing you don’t have to leave the house.
RECOMMENDED: What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher is $2.99! This was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet, and has been on sale a few times. Kim said in September 2023, “Loved What Moves the Dead–or, who am I kidding, all T. Kingfisher books. Genuinely creepy, atmospheric, with likeable and interesting characters. Fun science-y stuff, too. [The book] has a nonbinary main character and does interesting alt-history things with gender identity.”
I know Kingfisher is an auto-buy for many of you. Did any of you pick this one up?
Nora Goes Off Script by Annabel Monaghan is $1.99! Shana gave this one a C+:
Nora Goes Off Script made me laugh out loud, and offered a soothing fantasy about discovering your humdrum life is someone else’s perfection. It felt more like women’s fiction than romance, and I found myself wishing for more flavor in the love story, and in Nora’s meatloaf.
RECOMMENDED: Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir is $1.99. AJ and I did a lot of squeeing about this one on a podcast episode. Will you understand what’s going on? Probably not, but you’ll have a lot of fun being clueless. I also gave it a B+:
Gideon the Ninth is a unique and bloody bananapants book, and I do think it’s worth a reader’s curiosity. Gideon is an unforgettable protagonist.
Take the horror elements from T. Kingfisher’s novel The Hollow Places and combine them with the character dynamics and gentle, slow-burn romance of the Paladin series and you get Nettle and Bone, a fairy tale in which a princess enlists the help of a witch, a warrior, and an evil godmother in her efforts to kill a prince.
