Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire

Sparrow Hill Road

Sparrow Hill Road was a 4 1/2 star Top Pick in the May 2014 RT Book Reviews magazine that Amanda and I recapped, and I was curious, in part because I didn’t recognize it. I know McGuire’s other series (Adam really likes the October Daye books) but this one had escaped my knowledge. I found the audiobook, narrated by Amy Landon, at my library, and I inhaled it. I got so much done because I … Continue reading Sparrow Hill Road by Seanan McGuire

Books on Sale: Meddling and Murder by Ovidia Yu & More

Meddling and Murder by Ovidia Yu is 99c! This his a cozy mystery, though I’m unsure which installment this one is in the Aunty Lee Mystery series. Some places say it’s #1 in one series, while others say it’s #4 in another. I know Sarah has really enjoyed Yu’s Crown Colony series.

Books on Sale: The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory & More

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory is $1.99! When I first saw this on sale, I thought it was a glitch in the matrix, so get it while you can. Elyse read this one and gave it a B:

The Wedding Date is charming and delightful, and it saved me from getting overly hysterical on a flight to Costa Rica. It’s not a perfect book, and I found myself giving the hero my “WTF” face a few times, but the awesomeness of the heroine thrilled me.

Chaos Choreography by Seanan McGuire

Chaos Choreography

I try to resist the impulse to review every book in a series. I really do. After a few reviews, the reader should have all the information they need to know whether or not a series is of interest to them, and I should give some new authors a chance. But I was so happy with Chaos Choreography, the latest InCryptid novel by Seanan McGuire, that I can’t resist giving the series one more hurrah. I … Continue reading Chaos Choreography by Seanan McGuire

Review: Half-Off Ragnarok By Seanan McGuire

Review: Half-Off Ragnarok By Seanan McGuire

I’m a huge fan of Seanan McGuire, so I was thrilled when an ARC of Half-Off Ragnorak showed up on my front porch.  It was like Christmas, y’all.  This installment  of the InCryptid series switches gears, leaving Verity, the heroine of the first two books, off in the big city while Alex, her brother, takes center stage. Alex is a member of the Price family.  The Prices are a family of people who study cryptids.  … Continue reading Review: Half-Off Ragnarok By Seanan McGuire

Midnight Blue-Light Special, by Seanan McGuire

Midnight Blue-Light Special, by Seanan McGuire

Once upon a time I reviewed the first book in the InCrytpid series, Discount Armageddon.  I liked it, though it seemed like the kind of series where the romance aspect would drag on in an unresolved way for many, many books, which always irritates me.  But behold, in Book Two, Midnight Blue-Light Special, Verity and Dominic actually get to have a complete story arc! The next books are going to be about Verity’s brother, which … Continue reading Midnight Blue-Light Special, by Seanan McGuire

Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire - A Guest Review by CarrieS

Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire - A Guest Review by CarrieS

Seanan McGuire is fantastically cool – and not just because she sets some of her books in or near where I live.  As Seanan McGuire, she writes the October Daye urban fantasy series.  She also has several geek-tastic CDs and is notable for, among other things, setting a scene from Firefly to music (“My laugh is an evil, laugh, ha, ha, ha, ha, die”).   Finally, she writes the highly acclaimed Newsflesh series under the name … Continue reading Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire - A Guest Review by CarrieS

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.

Welcome back to Wednesday Links! I hope you all are doing well. Over the weekend, my partner and I visited a giant anime store and a disappointing aquarium. You win some; you lose some. We also suspect that our new upholstered headboard from Wayfair came to use with a few…friends already hitching a ride. So we’re dealing with that whole situation – wrapping our mattress in a plastic cover, steam cleaning everything, tossing furniture, etc. … Continue reading Links: Podcasts, Colleen Hoover, & More

Sister, Maiden, Monster

Sister, Maiden, Monster

“Absolutely recommended for readers of the cosmic and gloriously horrific.” ―Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling author Sister, Maiden, Monster is a visceral story set in the aftermath of our planet’s disastrous transformation and told through the eyes of three women trying to survive the nightmare, from Bram Stoker Award-winning author Lucy A. Snyder. A virus tears across the globe, transforming its victims in nightmarish ways. As the world collapses, dark forces pull a small group of women together. … Continue reading Sister, Maiden, Monster
