RECOMMENDED: Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath is $2.99! Jessie, who was a publicist at Avon, is a huge fan of this book, and has been since forever. she wrote A Love Letter to Texas Destiny a few years ago, and said:
There’s so much angst and heartache and tenderness and joy in this book, I’m overwhelmed with emotions every time I read it (which is maybe once or twice a year for the past ten years).

RECOMMENDED: An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard is $2.99! This is part of the two pages of Kindle Daily Deals today and is bring price-matched. I would recommended this only if you’re in a “burn it all down” mood. The book is violent, graphic, and the characters experience racism, sexism, and the like. But the main character is a witch who essentially wants to dismantle the ruling magic party because they’re terrible.

UPDATE: Deal no longer valid.
Roar by Cora Carmack is $2.99! This is a YA fantasy with romance, royalty, and magic. This is also a Kindle Daily Deal that is being price-matched. Do check out the other deals today, as Poldark is also on sale, as well as subsequent books. I think there’s a bit of a cliffhanger, though I’m not 100% positive.

Squee from the Keeper Shelf is a new feature wherein we share why we love the books we love, specifically the stories which are permanent residents of our Keeper shelves. Despite flaws, despite changes in age and perspective, despite the passage of time, we love particular books beyond reason, and the only thing better than re-reading them is telling other people about them. At length. If you’d like to submit your reasons for loving and … Continue reading Keeper Shelf: Beauty by Robin McKinley →
There are so many sales on so many things going on this week. There’s the long tail of Black Friday, then Cyber Monday and Small Tuesday and Giving Wednesday and keeping up with it makes me want to lie down in the dark. But I thought about it for a bit (in the dark of course) and in response I have one request for this week’s gift guide: Please name a book that makes a … Continue reading Holiday Gift Guide: Gifting Books and Linking Indies →
Whatcha Reading already?! I thought we did one of these just last week. Most of you all know the drill by now. Sound off in the comments about what you’ve been reading lately! Aarya: I recently finished Kit Rocha’s Deal with the Devil (out July 28) and enjoyed it. Sexy, exhilarating sci-fi road trip romance between two sets of found families (aka found family squared. They merge into a bigger found family and it’s so … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? July 2020 Edition, Part Two →
This idea came from one of our new reviewers, Lara! We thought it was so great that it deserved a Rec League! Lara: What about a mash-up of a book first aid kit and the holidays. For example, if you don’t enjoy holidays and would like a December romance that has nothing to do with family, then read: X. What’s in your “book first aid kit” (no more than 1 or 2 books per person) … Continue reading The Rec League: Books in Our Holiday Stress Kit →
This is a purely selfish post inspired by a lot of squeeing I’ve been doing with my fellow reviewers over the spooky season. Which books speak to your inner (or outer) goth, whether it appeals to your 16-year-old self just going through a phase or your adult witchy aesthetic? Amanda: Obviously Gideon the Ninth and Wicked Saints. Elyse: Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake Claudia: I’m going to be a little wide of the mark … Continue reading The Rec League: Books for Your Inner Goth →
Whatcha Reading for September is here! Are you ready? We are! Susan: No Good Men by Thea McAlistair! The protagonist is a pulp writer moonlighting as the mayor’s bodyguard to get by, which is a great job until the mayor gets shot. Now he’s being blackmailed by a reporter, flirted with by the “grieving” widow, and flirting with mob assassins while trying to find out whodunnit. It’s pulpy noir with a queer protagonist, which is … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? September 2019, Part One →
Unhappy with how Brienne’s story arc ended on Game of Thrones? Yeah, we were too! And of course, spoilers for the below post and rec request. Thanks Sharon for sending this one in: Do you know of any books where the heroine is like Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones? A warrior woman, somewhat masculine, brave and honorable…but awkwardly in love with someone she doesn’t think she has a chance with or has a conflict … Continue reading The Rec League: Brienne of Tarth →
