Content warnings for the series: Some pretty graphic violence, some questionable consent around bodily autonomy (but not by the characters we’re supposed to like). We’re dealing with immortal beings here who break ennui by doing ever more extreme things, both sexual and physical, so do be prepared for that. Don’t worry, the characters we’re supposed to like break free from this ennui through love and become ever more humane. … I’m not a huge fan … Continue reading Squee from the Keeper Shelf: Nalini Singh’s Guild Hunter Series →

When I record with Nalini Singh, since she’s in New Zealand and I’m on the east coast of the US, it’s weird hours for both of us – so thank you to Nalini for speaking to me bright and early in the morning. We talk about Atonement Sky, about writing and worldbuilding, and saying goodbye to characters. I also mix up my animal pluralities but I fix it, don’t worry. NOT thanks to Wilbur, my … Continue reading 676. Exploring Atonement Sky with Nalini Singh →

Will They or Won’t They by Ava Wilder is $1.99! This is an enemies to lovers story with two actors who play love interests on-screen. Wilder’s debut How to Fake It in Hollywood had a lot of recommendations on the site, but I think this one isn’t as beloved.

Welcome back, everyone! How are we all doing? I can feel the seasonal depression kicking in, so I had a whole day over the weekend to just really chill. My partner handled all the decision-making for the day, got me settled in a blanket nest on the couch, and surprised me with a copy of Luigi’s Mansion 3 on the Switch. Anyone else feeling the SAD pangs yet? … Sarah shared this link with me and now … Continue reading Links: Recommendations, Nalini Singh, & More →

RECOMMENDED: A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas is $2.99! Both Sarah and Carrie read this book and enjoyed it.
Sarah gave it a B+: I haven’t shut up about this book since I finished it. My outbound text messages are mostly hollering, squeeing, and long strings of vowels about this book.
I’m so excited this book exists. I’m so excited that I got to read it. I’m so excited there will be more.
Carrie gave it B: I can’t WAIT to find out what Charlotte, Livia, and Mrs. Watson are up to. I hope it involves them being protective of each other, empowering, and smart. The excitement is palpable!

My guest this week is Nalini Singh! I have reader questions from our Patreon community and publicist and past podcast guest Erin Galloway about Archangel’s Light, Nalini’s latest release. We cover writing multiple series at the same time. We also talk about fan art, which she absolutely loves, and about reading slumps – and how to escape them. Thank you to Ann, C, Varian, and Erin for the questions!
You may recall that I did a big honking re-read and catch-up with all 9,547,235 books in the Psy-Changeling and Psy-Changeling Trinity series earlier this year. When I received Last Guard I was extremely excited, because not only were much of the worldbuilding and character pairings still fresh in my mind, but also, I really wanted to read it. And I was even more excited simply because I was excited. I’m so terrible at keeping up with … Continue reading Last Guard by Nalini Singh →

Wolf Rain by Nalini Singh is $1.99 – and this might be a Kindle Daily Deal so go, go, go! I did an epic read-through of the Psy-Changeling series from December 2020 through January 2021, and this was one of my favorites. There’s yearning, monumental impediments to the protagonists’ connection, badassery, and the usual, delightful emphasis on compassion and empathy, the latter much more overt. If you like this series, this is a terrific deal – and the next book is out in July!

A Wedding One Christmas by Therese Beharrie is $1.99! I believe today is the last day to get this sale, so grab it while you can. Lots of tropes here: holiday romance, fake relationships, and it takes place mostly in the span of 24-hours. Have you read this one?

If you want three new recommended reads for the weekend, you got ’em! We have a superhero origin-esque story, the latest in a favorite paranormal romance, and a swoony, tender historical romance.
