This review was very, very difficult for me to write. I’ve spent most of the past day wondering if I overreacted or was being too sensitive. Hours later, I’ve come to three conclusions: My feelings are 100% valid. The content is harmful enough that I feel obligated to rant and warn readers about it. One Wicked Winter Night contains racist drivel that should’ve never been cleared for publication. The premise is… you know what, the … Continue reading One Wicked Winter Night by Mary Jo Putney →

RECOMMENDED: Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price-matched. It’s a scifi novel with some great female characters. Readers say that though this scifi is a little darker and less “feel good,” the loved it. However, some felt a bulk of the book was just setup and information dumping for the next book. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads. Elyse enjoyed this one and I really loved the audiobook.

Loving a Lost Lord In the first of a dazzling series, Mary Jo Putney introduces the Lost Lords—maverick childhood friends with a flair for defying convention. Each is about to discover the woman who is his perfect match—but perfection doesn’t come easily, even for the noble Duke of Ashton. . . Battered by the sea, Adam remembers nothing of his past, his ducal rank, nor of the shipwreck that almost claimed his life. However, he’s … Continue reading Mary Jo Putney’s Lost Lords Bundle →

RECOMMENDED: The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran is $1.99 right now (along with two of Duran's other books, including a March 2014 pre-order,Fool Me Twice, and At Your Pleasure.) This was Duran's debut novel, and I reviewed it when it came out, giving it a B-: “Duran’s use of color and symbolism is particularly deft, and simply marvelous. She references varying shades of color both in the reality of the madness in the Indian … Continue reading Books on Sale: More From Meredith Duran, Plus Scott Westerfeld, Mary Jo Putney, and Kresley Cole →

I’ve had Uncommon Vows on my coffee table for a few days now, so I could stare at it while I watched tv to try to figure out what I’m going to say about it. I can say that I finished it. I can also say that a lot of people really, really, hump-the-walls-and-erect-a-shrine-to-Putney-in-the-den LOVE this book. I can also say that it was okay. If one pictures the separate elements of a romance novel … Continue reading Uncommon Vows by Mary Jo Putney →

Mary Jo Putney is often hit or miss with me. Sometimes she sucks me in and I almost miss my stop because I’m so involved in the book. Sometimes I stay up all freaking night to read her novel because it is that good, despite the fact that I have to get up early and go somewhere by 8am. Sometimes, I am thoroughly “meh” about the entire plot and could stop in the middle and … Continue reading The Bartered Bride, by Mary Jo Putney →

I wrote this review back when the book was first released in 2000 and posted it on my old Tripod website. (No, I’m not about to tell you what it is. It’s a pretty embarrassing old site, complete with “LOL!“s and emoticons.) I re-read this review recently, and decided eh, what the hell, I’ll clean it up a little and post it here. Enjoy this Blast from the Past. As you can see, I was … Continue reading The China Bride by Mary Jo Putney →

I started this novel immediately after finishing Dearly Beloved and Candy assured me it was much much better. It was, but I’ve still come away after finishing the novel with a let down, unsatisfied feeling. If you’re only reading the top paragraph of our reviews – and really, why would you do that? – I would have to sum up my feelings by saying, it was a good story, and I liked the characters well … Continue reading Angel Rogue by Mary Jo Putney →

Usually by the time I get two-thirds of the way through a book, I’m churning through it, desperate to see how it ends. With this one, I am having a hard time finding the energy with which to give a crap. I mean, how many repetitive misunderstandings and angsty moments can you have in one novel? If you’re Mary Jo Putney and you’re writing “Dearly Beloved,” there’s no such thing as too many. I have … Continue reading Dearly Beloved by Mary Jo Putney →
A RITA award-winning novel from the New York Times–bestselling author of An Unwilling Bride. “Today’s most skillful writer of intelligent historical romance” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) takes readers into the heart of the most mysterious, most powerful, most seductive Georgian aristocrat of them all: the Marquess of Rothgar. Two of the strongest wills in England clash when Lord Rothgar is commanded by the king to escort the fiercely independent Diana Westmount, Countess of Arradale, to … Continue reading Devilish →
Welcome to Whatcha Reading! This is where we talk about what we’ve been reading (duh!). Here’s how we’re kicking off May: Lara: I picked up Loving a Lost Lord by Mary Jo Putney when it was on sale recently. So far it’s ridiculous. An imaginary sister, a shipwreck and amnesia But I’ve only just started so who knows what else lies in store. Looking forward to it! Claudia: I’m reading Gabriela and His Grace by … Continue reading Whatcha Reading? May 2025, Part One →
