Books on Sale: The Brightest Day by Kianna Alexander & More

RECOMMENDED: The Brightest Day Anthology is 99c! This is a historical romance anthology with several recommended authors. Sarah read it and gave it a B-:

Anthologies are difficult to grade sometimes. Some of the stories I found myself skimming, while with Cole’s story, I was gripping my ereader so tightly my hands started to ache. I’m giving this anthology a B- overall, averaging together the grades above.

Brokedown Cowboy by Maisey Yates

Brokedown Cowboy

I am a big fan of regency romance, so I thought I would step out of my comfort zone a little for the RITA© Reader Challenge and read a contemporary. Well, that and I am apparently not the only fan of Regency romance so they were pretty much all spoken for by the time I got around to signing up- but I digress! I don’t usually gravitate towards contemporary romance and I have never read … Continue reading Brokedown Cowboy by Maisey Yates

Brokedown Cowboy by Maisey Yates

Brokedown Cowboy

I had high hopes for this book, I really did. A widower finds love with his best friend? Sounded like my kind of story, but about ¼ of the way through it I knew that I was ONLY going to finish so that I could write this review, because I love me some SBTB. Let’s start with the good. Maisey Yates is a damn good writer. Untouched is one of my favorite contemporaries ever. She … Continue reading Brokedown Cowboy by Maisey Yates

Books on Sale: My One and Only by Kristan Higgins & More

My One and Only by Kristan Higgans is $1.99 at most vendors and $2.99 elsewhere! This is a contemporary second chance romance with a road trip plot. Catnip, anyone? Some readers felt the romance was predictable and just sort of meh, while others really loved how Higgins handled the second chance/reunited exes trope. Readers also mentioned the book has some great secondary characters. Have you read this one?

Books on Sale: Bringing Home the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon & More

RECOMMENDED: Bringing Home the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon is $1.99! I bought this when it was n sale last spring and enjoyed it! This is a contemporary romance and the first in a series. The hero is a tattoo artist, single father, and a widower, and I just know that has to be someone’s catnip. The heroine also appears to be the best friend of the hero’s late wife, which I know isn’t everyone’s favorite trope. You have been forewarned. It also has a 4-star rating on GoodReads.

Avenge Me by Maisey Yates

Avenge Me

I like over-the-top, angsty Harlequin Presents, and I like Maisey Yates’ writing, so it was no real surprise that I enjoyed Avenge Me. It’s the first book in the 5th Avenue trilogy, and based on the steaminess and drama of the first installment, I’m going to like this series a lot. The book opens with Austin Treffen reflecting on the fact that he’s about to destroy his family. Austin is a lawyer, and just like his daddy, … Continue reading Avenge Me by Maisey Yates

Books on Sale: Contemporary Awesomeness from Ruthie Knox, Maisey Yates and More

RECOMMENDED – Ride With Me, Ruthie Knox's first contemporary with LoveSwept, is on sale for .99c. Road Trip Romance! On Bikes! I reviewed this book in 2012 and gave it a B saying that the ending was rushed for me, but I loved the descriptions:  There were a number of extraordinary features to this book. First, Knox describes the changing American landscape in such a way that you never feel the monotony of biking. Every … Continue reading Books on Sale: Contemporary Awesomeness from Ruthie Knox, Maisey Yates and More

Unbuttoned by Maisey Yates

Unbuttoned by Maisey Yates

I loved Unbuttoned by Maisey Yates in a big way. My only real complaint is that it’s a novella, not a novel, and it left me wanting more—more character development, more plot, more sizzling unresolved sexual tension. Reading Unbuttoned is like being given one of those trendy cake pops; I gobbled it down and then thought “where the fuck is the rest of my cake?!” Carly Denton is the one who needs unbuttoning in this … Continue reading Unbuttoned by Maisey Yates

A Royal World Apart by Maisey Yates

A Royal World Apart by Maisey Yates

I picked up this book when I read on Maisey Yates’ Facebook page that she’d written a Harlequin Presents with a virgin hero. The what you say? Most of the Presents I’ve read featured trembling, doe-eyed, virginal heroines who’ve never bothered to locate or think about their hoo-has until the hero shows up. If Yates wrote her hero in the same mold, then they’d spend half the book sitting on a king-sized bed in front … Continue reading A Royal World Apart by Maisey Yates

Comic Style Covers Keep On Coming

A vintage comic style illustration of two men about to kiss. One is standing up, has blonde hair in a kind of pompadour, and is wearing a right red shirt and jeans. In front of him is a seated man in a director's chair wearing a white button down and jeans.

It’s Comics, but it’s not Comic Sans! Recently Cat Sebastian revealed on Instagram the cover for her new book, Star Shipped, coming out in March 2026: Vintage comic style! I dig it. It conveys an era without being exactly specific, and it’s a style that’s nostalgically familiar. I’ve noticed this style as a growing trend in romance. Now, usually when I notice a trend, it’s after two similar occurrences. That’s a coincidence, I know. This … Continue reading Comic Style Covers Keep On Coming
