This book was perfect entertainment for my stressed out brain, and I was definitely rooting for those two wacky kids to have their HEA.
Will They or Won’t They by Ava Wilder is $1.99! This is an enemies to lovers story with two actors who play love interests on-screen. Wilder’s debut How to Fake It in Hollywood had a lot of recommendations on the site, but I think this one isn’t as beloved.
RECOMMENDED: The Stand-In by Lily Chu is $2.51! This is a debut contemporary romance. Elyse gave this one an A:
So we have a celebrity romance, women being friends and helping each other with their mental health, and reflections on identity and community. That’s a lot to pack into a book, but it all works and delivered by Philippa Soo’s incredibly soothing voice, it was totally my jam.
Marple: Twelve New Mysteries is $1.99! This is an anthology of Miss Marple mysteries from a variety of wonderful authors. I remember Sarah was listening to his and really enjoying it.
RECOMMENDED: A Power Unbound by Freya Marske is $2.99! This is book 3 of The Last Binding series, a queer historical fantasy series that began with A Marvellous Light (which is in KU so if you haven’t read this trilogy, it’s easy to start). A Power Unbound was mentioned in Hide Your Wallet, and Freya Marske was a guest on the podcast to talk about the second book A Restless Truth. This trilogy is terrific, and A Power Unbound has a 4.39 star average on StoryGraph and 4.32 on Goodreads. Have you read this book?
RECOMMENDED: Hana Khan Carries On by Uzma Jalaluddin is $2.99! This was recently mentioned in the comments of our Podcasting Romances Rec League. Sneezy and Carrie read this one and gave it a B+:
Carrie: Although I’ve never been to Canada, I felt right at home in this book. Sneezy and I did a lot of squeeing over this story, just…not so much about the romance element, which was – eh, fine. Reader beware – this book will make you laugh and cry, but above all, it will make you so, so hungry!!
RECOMMENDED: Playing House by Ruby Lang is $2.99! The entire series is price as $2.99, so I’m unsure if this is actually a sale or normal price. Aarya gave it a B:
It’s a must-read for the summer if you’re looking for an adorable, empathetic, and joyful romance.
I encourage you to pick up Playing House to transport you into another world for a few hours. It might be the escape you desperately need; it certainly was for me.
The Art of Theft by Sherry Thomas is $1.99! This is book four in the Lady Sherlock series, which the Bitchery and Sarah highly recommend. I do believe these books should be read in order, but if you’re looking to collect all the books on your Kindle, this is a great deal.
Devil in Disguise is a fun, hot romance that tells the story of Lady Merritt Sterling, the widowed daughter of the Earl of Westcliff, and Keir MacRae, a whisky distiller from Scotland. It’s very much fanservice for readers who enjoyed the Wallflower series, with Lillian, Westcliff and Evie all appearing in the story, and Sebastian, who is now the Duke of Kingston, playing a particularly prominent role. Chasing Cassandra by Lisa Kleypas is $1.99! Ellen reviewed this one and gave it a C+:
Overall, even though I did enjoy reading most of this book, I was left feeling kind of lukewarm due to the stalling plot and not quite satisfying romance. I think if you have been reading and liking the series so far there is plenty to like here, especially if you are interested in spending more time with the characters we have already been introduced to.
RECOMMENDED: A Study in Scarlet Women by Sherry Thomas is $2.99! Both Sarah and Carrie read this book and enjoyed it.
Sarah gave it a B+: I haven’t shut up about this book since I finished it. My outbound text messages are mostly hollering, squeeing, and long strings of vowels about this book.
I’m so excited this book exists. I’m so excited that I got to read it. I’m so excited there will be more.
Carrie gave it B: I can’t WAIT to find out what Charlotte, Livia, and Mrs. Watson are up to. I hope it involves them being protective of each other, empowering, and smart. The excitement is palpable!
