Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan is 99c! This is the first book in the Hoops series and features a basketball player hero. Basketball is a severely underrepresented sport in romance and I’m always happy to see more of it. Readers warn that there is a character background involving domestic abuse, but it’s handled very well according to reviews.

Whiskey Sharp: Unraveled by Lauren Dane is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and it’s being price matched. I know Sarah enjoyed this one and is excited for the next book in the series. Here’s what she said about Unraveled, and she typed this while on a snow slope! She assured me that she stopped snowboarding first.
It’s low on relationship conflict and high on family conflict. I really liked the found family aspects. And the food.

Sarah interviews New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Lauren Dane about her Diablo Lake series. The newest book in the series, Diablo Lake: Protected, came out at the end of January. This is a rather indulgent episode – it’s a big treat to get to talk to the author of a book one really liked, and to take a nerdy deep dive into a world that one enjoyed. They talk about female friendships, world … Continue reading 234: Female Friendships, Shifters, Secrets, and Series: An Interview with Lauren Dane →
I wrote in my review of Diablo Lake: Moonstruck that the first book in this series read like a pilot episode of a series: there was a lot of story to set up, a whole lot of plot and world building to accomplish, plus a romance. Diablo Lake: Protected, book two in the series, picks up a little bit after book one ended, and boy howdy gosh darn golly, all that building and setup in book one … Continue reading Diablo Lake: Protected by Lauren Dane →
This is the first book in a new series, and to be honest, it read more like a pilot episode or maybe even pilot season than a book. I’ve tried a few times while writing this to articulate that impression, and the best I can come up with is that while the central characters, Katie Faith and Jace, have a very quick relationship development and commitment, and there is a happy-for-now ending for them both, … Continue reading Moonstruck by Lauren Dane →
Kati D has been eager to interview Lauren Dane for the podcast for a long, long time, and finally we found a time for everyone to connect. Yay! We discuss how Lauren got her start as an author, books that address frightening situations like domestic violence and stalking, and stories that focus on fierce and independent heroines who are part of realistic and vivid groups of women friends. We also talk about alpha witches and … Continue reading 192. Alpha Heroines and Alpha Heroes: Kati D Interviews Lauren Dane →
RECOMMENDED: Wishes by Jude Deveraux is $1.99 at Amazon! Some readers admittedly thought this was a pretty odd book, but this is what Sarah had to say:
This is one of my favorite cracktastic historicals. The heroine has a “fairy godmother” who is actually a New York socialite who died and is in purgatory. To enter heaven she has to make the heroine’s life better. At one point she takes a break from her fairy-godmothering and conjures up a year’s worth of People magazine, which totally made my teenage heart explode with envy.

I tend to do a lot of reading on business trips because there’s not much else to do once the work day is done. In fact my boss actually sells me on trips–like to Alabama in fucking July–by saying “Hey, think of all the reading you’ll get done!” So I saved Opening Up and Falling Under by Lauren Dane for this trip and boy-howdy am I happy I did. First of all, let’s take a moment to appreciate … Continue reading Opening Up by Lauren Dane →
RECOMMENDED: Just Like Heaven is $1.99 right now. This is book 1 of the Smith-Smythe series, a companion series to Quinn's much-loved Bridgerton series. I call these “visiting books,” as there's not a lot of emotional tension, but I like the world and I like the people in it, so I enjoy visiting when I read one. I reviewed this book when it came out and gave it a B-: I read this book … Continue reading Books on Sale: Julia Quinn, Lauren Dane, Tessa Dare, and Jill Mansell! →
When Cosmo and Harlequin launched the “Red Hot Reads” novella collection, the novella I heard the most about from my friends and fellow readers was Cake by Lauren Dane. I read or heard enough positive commentary about it that when I had a moment to buy a copy, I already had that very nice and warm, “I think I'm going to like this” feeling when I click-click-bought it. Dane's novels don't always work for me. … Continue reading Cake by Lauren Dane →
So many book deals to tell you about to day. Get ready and sit on your wallet. Or do what I do and put it on the desk … and regret that decision later. First: this book was recommended to me as part of my Buy Your Mother a Book recommendation round up, and when I went to link to it, I saw that it was .99c in some retailers, and free at Amazon. Then … Continue reading Books on Sale: Australian Mysteries, Linda Howard, Lauren Dane and More →
