I sit here stunned. Yes, I have written this review twice. The first version was too overwrought because I was entirely overcome by this book. This is such a bracing, visceral story of deep thoughts and even deeper emotions that it left me wrung out. Before I go any further, I need to beg you to absolutely delete this book’s cover from your mind. It is horribly misleading. Our hero is not a smug git. … Continue reading My Season for Scandal by Julie Anne Long
This book made me swoon IRL. Reading it was a fever dream and not just because of the sex scenes. I was so immersed in it that the real world and its troubles didn’t even occur to me for the duration of the book. (I am anxious by nature, so this is a feat.) Lorcan St Leger had a rough start in life in St Giles, but through illegal (and now legal) means, he has … Continue reading How to Tame a Wild Rogue by Julie Anne Long

RECOMMENDED: Well Met by Jen DeLuca is $1.99! This is a contemporary romance set at a Ren Faire! Carrie gave this one a B:
It’s playful and fun with an undercurrent of powerful, mutual empathy and mutual emotional care.
CW: discussions of sexual harrassment and an instance of non-graphic sexual assault. Friends, I stayed up all night reading this book. And this was no ordinary night…I had just had surgery (with great results!) but the after effects of anesthesia (which usually leaves me super sleepy) were powerless in the face of this tremendous romance. Two foolish peers have fought a duel over an opera singer. The outcome? The object of the duel, our rising-star … Continue reading After Dark with the Duke by Julie Anne Long

RECOMMENDED: The Chocolate Touch by Laura Florand is $2.99! This contemporary romance was a Sizzling Book Club pick in September 2013. For many, Florand is an auto-buy author and the descriptions of chocolate were downright dangerous. A few readers felt that some scenes dialed up the angst too high, but the book maintains a 4-star rating on GoodReads.

Yours Until Dawn by Teresa Medeiros is $3.99! This is a standalone historical romance that came out in the early 2000s. It has a blind hero and some Beauty and the Beast elements. Several readers say this book has earned a spot on their keeper shelf. However, there seems to be a “twist” mentioned that readers felt was unnecessary. I bough this one last time it was on sale and I’m on the “keeper shelf” camp.

I’ve Got My Duke to Keep Me Warm by Kelly Bowen is $1.99! This is the first book in the Lords of Worth series and it was mentioned in a guest post on “feminist favorites.” I thought we had mentioned it in something else as well, but I couldn’t locate anything.
Angel in a Devil’s Arms is the second book in Julie Anne Long’s Palace of Rogues series, and it is adorable. I loved basically everything about it, from the ensemble of ‘found family’ at the Palace of Rogues, to the humour, to the sweetness and intimacy of Lucien’s conversations with Angelique, and most especially to the subversion of several very Old Skool tropes which are beyond ready to be retired. You don’t really need to … Continue reading Angel in a Devil’s Arms by Julie Anne Long
Reading Lady Derring Takes a Lover is like starting a new relationship. Everything is super awesome and wrapped in a blissful glow but then a few weeks pass and you start to notice that maybe your hot new date has some annoying habits, but that’s OK, because no one is perfect. What I’m saying here is that I was passionately in love with this book, but realized later that it’s not actually perfect, but still good. … Continue reading Lady Derring Takes a Lover by Julie Anne Long
