Q&A: Amy Zed and Jennifer Estep

Featured image for Q&A: Amy Zed and Jennifer Estep

Hi Smart Bitches readers! I’m Amy Zed, author of A Symphony of Starlight, a sci-fi romantasy debuting January first. As a new author, I’ve had many star-eye-emoji-worthy moments in the last few months, from getting my first edit letter to holding the first printed copy of my novel in my hands. But even when I was cradling my first author copy, I never imagined I’d get the chance to interview one of my all-time favorite … Continue reading Q&A: Amy Zed and Jennifer Estep

Only Bad Options by Jennifer Estep

Only Bad Options

I’d never heard of a space opera before. Having just read my first, I’m not sure that I’m qualified to define it, but I can tell you that I absolutely love it! This is 429 pages of reading joy. That this is book one in a series fills me with delight – so many happy reading hours ahead! As I see it, a space opera seems to be part romance, part space adventure. Let’s dive … Continue reading Only Bad Options by Jennifer Estep

Protect the Prince by Jennifer Estep

Protect the Prince

In Kill the Queen Jennifer Estep introduced readers to a fantasy world that was immersive and blissfully lacking in info-dump. It featured female gladiators, political machinations, and an underdog heroine. I really enjoyed Kill the Queen, so I was delighted to find that I loved the sequel Protect the Prince even more. It’s a blend of fantasy-adventure, romance and mystery, and I devoured it in a single day. You do need to read Kill the … Continue reading Protect the Prince by Jennifer Estep

Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep

Kill the Queen

Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep is the first book in a fantasy series that features a badass female gladiator on a quest to reclaim the throne from her murderous cousin. It’s tremendous fun, although it wraps up quickly. Lady Everleigh Saffira Winter Blair is a low ranking member of the royal family of Bellona. She’s never going to inherit the crown and, in a world that values magic, she has no real magical power. … Continue reading Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep

Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep

Karma Girl

Karma Girl is very silly and yet I could not stop reading it. It doesn’t make much sense and the characters are all kinda dumb and yet I was highly entertained. Either it’s a book with modest ambitions that meets them well, or my headache meds were working better than I thought. Karma Girl is about a reporter named Carmen who is obsessed with the idea of karma even though she clearly does not understand … Continue reading Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep

Bestselling Urban Fantasy from Jeaniene Frost, Jennifer Estep, and V Neck Sweaters from Singh – and More

Books on Sale: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost & More

RECOMMENDED: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost is $1.99 today. This is the first book in the Cat & Bones/Night Huntress series, and I reviewed it back when it came out in 2007:

This nocturnal badassery comes to a screeching halt when Cat is kidnapped by an exceptionally strong nosferatu named Bones, who is really, really old, really, really strong, and really, really, really sure that Cat is working for someone, someone who wants him dead.

When Cat, sure her end is about two seconds away, tells him the truth about her life and mission, Bones refuses to believe her, until Cat’s emotions get the better of her and her eyes glow green. Bones, who is not a dumbass after many hundreds of years of existence, makes her an offer: train with him, and work with him as a vampire bounty hunter, or die.

I really liked this book, especially the heroine.

Spider's Bite, book #1, by Jennifer Estep is $1.99. This is book 1 in the Elemental Assassins series, featuring Gin Blanco, who is powerful, badass, and fascinating. This series is a much-loved Urban Fantasy adventure and each book gets better than the last, according to reviewers. Plus, many people highlighted this quote, which is pretty awesome, too:  “You're late.” “Sorry. I was busy talking about my feelings and killing people.” My name is Gin, and … Continue reading Books on Sale: Excellent Books from Theresa Romain, Jennifer Estep, and Melina Marchetta!

By a Thread by Jennifer Estep is $1.99 right now. This is book #6 in the Gin Blanco series, which is a paranormal urban fantasy about an assassin who controls a set of elements (hence the name of the series, Elemental Assassin). While this is book 6 some reviews state that there's enough recap that you can pick this one up without being too lost – though I understand being a bit wary of starting … Continue reading Books on Sale: Urban Fantasy from Jennifer Estep and Jocelynn Drake, plus Knitting!
