A Scot to the Heart by Caroline Linden

A Scot to the Heart

This guest review is from Morgan Grantwood. Morgan is an aspiring novelist with a Regency series about bluestockings in the works and degrees in English and History. But her day job, where she writes millions of words per year, sometimes gets in her way. So she reads and reviews other people’s books instead. … Do you ever read one of those books where you admire and respect the narrative choices, but those same choices leave … Continue reading A Scot to the Heart by Caroline Linden

Books on Sale: The Girl Next Door by Chelsea Cameron & More

The Girl Next Door by Chelsea M. Cameron is $1.99! Tara and Shana wrote a joint review for this one back in May and gave it a B-:

Shana: I would give this a B-. I loved the wholesome sweetness of the love story. I was rooting hard for Iris and Jude, but the low-conflict storyline left me wanting a little more angst and a lot more plot. This reminded me of a Hallmark Channel movie with girl sex.

An Earl Like You by Caroline Linden

An Earl Like You

An Earl Like You by Caroline Linden is the second book in the Wagers of Sin series and features a plot where the hero is involved in deceiving the heroine in a significant way. I really struggled with this plot and with finding any empathy for the hero, and I spent a lot of the book cringing internally over the humiliation the heroine would ultimately face. This book gave me a lot of second-hand embarrassment. When … Continue reading An Earl Like You by Caroline Linden

My Once and Future Duke by Caroline Linden

My Once and Future Duke

I really wanted to like My Once and Future Duke but despite a heroine I loved and a great depiction of female friendships, the hero ruined it for me. Sophie Campbell was orphaned at a young age and her aristocratic grandfather wanted nothing to do with her, so he paid only for her education until she was of age and then he cut her off. Sophie has (successfully) been working her way toward financial security by … Continue reading My Once and Future Duke by Caroline Linden

All’s Fair in Love and Scandal by Caroline Linden

All’s Fair in Love and Scandal

I’ve enjoyed Ms. Linden’s Scandals series, but had fallen behind. Despite being a modest 176 pages, this short novel is a complete story and has inspired me to pick up the last volume in the series. This book is the third story in the series of five. For those who are just starting the series, the Scandal books whirl around the conceit of naughty pamphlets, “50 Ways to Sin,” which detail the sexcapades of certain … Continue reading All’s Fair in Love and Scandal by Caroline Linden

Six Degrees of Scandal by Caroline Linden

Six Degrees of Scandal

This is the final book in Caroline Linden’s Scandalous series (vaguely inspired by the existence of 50 Shades and what makes a cultural zeitgeist, as discussed in the podcast she did with Sarah several months ago). It wraps up the story of the last Weston sibling, the plot that’s been working through the entire series, and the mystery of who’s been writing the Lady Charlotte erotica that’s everyone has been reading. Olivia Herbert and James Weston grew up … Continue reading Six Degrees of Scandal by Caroline Linden
