Hey! It’s Wednesday Links!
I am back in New England. I know a few of you wanted to know how traveling was. Well, my flight down was delayed because a man wanted to curse out the plane for wearing masks. I should also note that the plane was going to Orlando and was mostly full of families with young children. If you follow me on social media, you may have seen the video I took. Coming back was fine.
I noticed no difference in terms of the amount of people at the airport and while masks are required, a lot of people clearly didn’t know how to wear them. If you’re feeling particularly anxious still about the pandemic and people following guidelines, I’d say keep waiting before you decide to travel.

In honor of Shrek‘s 20th anniversary, people are trying to draw the ogre from memory with hilarious results.

Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton is getting her own adaptation! It sounds like the show will follow the adventures of a young Charlotte. Will you be watching?

Next week! FREE EVENT! Sarah is the guest for month four of Lauren Willig’s Carnation read-along, and the Zoom gathering will be on 5/27.

I often lament that young adult gets all the cool stuff: great covers, awesome artists doing fanart, and gorgeous special editions. Well now we’re getting some adult romance in the mix. Illumicrate is doing a special release of The Brown Sisters trilogy by Talia Hibbert.
These will be hardcover signed edges with adorable sprayed edges! I have ordered special editions from Illumicrate before and can attest to their quality. However, they are a Britain based company and shipping can be pricey.

Yay for Queen Charlotte! There can never be enough of her, and it looks like we’ll see young Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury at some point.
We just returned from two weeks in Cabo San Lucas, our first trip anywhere after more than a year after being vaccinated.
Our takeaways: everyone on the planes was cooperative, flight attendants were vigilant.
In crowded indoor spaces, such as resort check-in, Americans (I am one) can be the most ignorant group on the planet. When asked by staff to put their masks on, the inevitable response was “We’re vaccinated.” (really? all 40 of you in this small space?). Me: Well, that’s just f*ing great for you, a*hole, but nobody in this town has been that fortunate, so we are not 100% safe for them.
Sorry. I’m still angry about how cavalier we are in our privilege. Because the LOCAL people were so careful and conscientious about constant sanitizing, maintaining distance, plastic-wrapped utensils, gloves and so on. They need tourists to come back very badly and can’t we just be respectful as guests in their country? /rant (And if my comments are inappropriate here, please delete with extreme prejudice.)
C’mon, Queen Charlotte. Let’s go draw Shrek.
Butter by BTS is out Friday, and I’m hyped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOMxU9f1FBU
I’m kind of obsessed with Jimin’s rainbow hair from the promo photos. (Well. Not kind of. Entirely.)
@Darlynne, I would NEVER moderate a comment that ends with, “C’mon, Queen Charlotte. Let’s go draw Shrek.”
@Darlynne: Yes! Sarah and I were tickled at your ending comment.
I agree with you that traveling is just frustrating, ugh.
I just discovered that Lois McMaster Bujold has a new Penric & Desdemona book out (released 10 May) – The Assassins of Thasalon.
Amanda, thank you for the travel recap! I can’t say that sounds like my ideal air travel situation, but it’s good to start mentally preparing myself for it. Fortunately, the first flight I will have to take this summer is pretty short and hopefully not a popular destination.
