All of Us Murderers by KJ Charles

All of Us Murderers by KJ Charles is $3! This standalone historical romance mystery released in October and many of you were really excited for it. What did you think?

The lush Gothic drama of Crimson Peak meets the murderous intrigue of Knives Out with an LGBTQIA+ love story to die for from award-winning author KJ Charles.

    WHO WILL SURVIVE LACKADAY HOUSE?

When Zeb Wyckham is summoned to a wealthy relative’s remote Gothic manor, he is horrified to find all the people he least wants to see in the world: his estranged brother, his sneering cousin, and his bitter ex-lover Gideon Grey. Things couldn’t possibly get worse.

Then the master of the house announces the true purpose of the gathering: he intends to leave the vast family fortune to whoever marries his young ward, setting off a violent scramble for her hand. Zeb wants no part of his greedy family—but when he tries to leave, the way is barred. The walls of Lackaday House are high, and the gates firmly locked. As the Dartmoor mists roll in, there’s no way out. And something unnatural may be watching them from the house’s shadowy depths…

Fear and paranoia ramping ever-higher, Zeb has nowhere to turn but to the man who once held his heart. As the gaslight flickers and terror takes hold, can two warring lovers reunite, uncover the murderous mysteries of Lackaday House—and live to tell the tale?

  • A Duke in the Rough

A Duke in the Rough by Trisha Messmer

A Duke in the Rough by Trisha Messmer is $2.49! This is book one in a historical romance series and features a new duke hiding his identity.

How can a newly minted duke escape title-seeking debutantes? Lie, of course!

Lady Honoria Bell never recovered from her broken heart. Fending off suitors her marquess father forces in her path, she’s put aside hopes of marriage. However, word of a house party hosted by the new, eligible Duke of Burwood brings a renewed gleam to her father’s eye. But regardless of the new duke’s appeal, Honoria knows he won’t fill the void Drake Merrick left.

If there’s one thing Drake Merrick knows, it’s that aristocratic women care more about a title than they do love. Losing the love of his life because he was a lowly groom proved it. So, when a twist of fate makes him the new Duke of Burwood, he’s determined to choose a bride who wants him—not his title.

Switching places with his man of business seems like the perfect plan to test the affections of eager debutantes. Until it backfires the moment Honoria arrives, and he realizes his heart will always be irrevocably hers.

But will his deception allow her to prove her love? Or will his lies destroy it?

  • Silk and Steel

Silk and Steel by Kat Martin

Silk & Steel by Kat Martin is $2.99! This is book two in the Litchfield series. This was also the answer to a HaBO, where the hero walks in on the heroine performing an autopsy.

    SHE COULD TAKE HIS NAME,

Lady Kathryn Grayson is a gently bred noblewoman with a privileged future ahead of her… until her greedy uncle decides to steal her fortune by committing her to an insane asylum. Her only escape is to stow away in the carriage of Lucien Montaine, Marquess of Litchfield, who hears her story with disbelief and suspicion. Yet Kathryn’s instincts tell her Lord Litchfield is a man of honor — and her only salvation. Desperate to save herself, she attempts to seduce him and forces him into marriage.

BUT SHE COULDN’T TAKE HIS HEART.

The moment Lucien encounters the ragged, hungry waif with the dignity of a queen, he fights against wanting her. Though captivated by her intellect, strong will and beauty, he will never love the woman who has deceived him.

    OR SO HE THOUGHT…

Though their battle of wills grows stronger every day, desire threatens to overpower his fury. Can this maddening woman who is now his bride melt his heart of steel? Or will her silken touch only strengthen his vow never to fall prey to the dangers of love?

  • Mine Till Midnight

Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas

Mine Till Midnight by Lisa Kleypas is $1.99! This is book one in The Hathaways series. Be warned, the hero is part Romani, though the book uses more offensive terminology. Last time this was on sale, there were dubious comments on how well this has aged. Subsequent books are also on sale at $3.99 a piece.

Two hearts steeped in scandal . . .

When an unexpected inheritance elevates her family to the ranks of the aristocracy, Amelia Hathaway discovers that tending to her younger sisters and wayward brother was easy compared to navigating the intricacies of the ton. Even more challenging: the attraction she feels for the tall, dark, and dangerously handsome Cam Rohan.

Wealthy beyond most men’s dreams, Cam has tired of society’s petty restrictions and longs to return to his “uncivilized” Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship—but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter . . .

Love that retro Gothic cover on the Charles.

  2. I looooooved All of Us Murderers!

  3. Christa says:

I gave All of Us Murderers all of the stars. It worked for me in every possible way. It is a second chance romance with ADHD rep and literary references that made the nerd in me very happy.

  4. Michelle says:

It always upsets me when heroes in historicals hold it against women who deceive them or prioritize their own security out of desperation. The power imbalance and lack of rights make it so unreasonable. You don’t have to be happy about it, and it’s fair to feel resentful, but at least understand that she doesn’t have a huge number of options and have some compassion.

  5. Liz says:

I read the beginning of “Mine Till Midnight” pretty recently, and it uses Rom/Romany. I *think* I saw something about Kleypas going back and editing some of her books to address problematic details, but my memory isn’t always reliable, so I may be mixing her up with a different author.

  6. NT says:

The $3 deal for All of Us Murderers appears to require a Prime account. Otherwise it’s $7.39.

  7. Liz says:

@Michelle there’s one historical author I had to stop reading because in every! one! of the three books of hers I tried, the MMC chastised the FMC for not trusting him implicitly shortly after they’d met. We already deal with more than enough gaslighting and unfair standards irl, tyvm 😒

  8. Susan Sewell says:

book one of the Kate Martin Series is also #2.99 on Amazon.
