Tiki Barber at the Quill: “Romance Rocks.”

Here at Smart Bitches, we are all about Tiki Barber. What’s Tiki doing now that he’s retired? What kind of car does he drive? What major literary awards does he present, and what color tie does he wear?

I haven’t found a great picture besides this one, but check it out: behind some author named Nora Roberts whose book Angels Fall won the Quill Award for Book of the Motherfriggin’ Year , there’s Tiki Barber. Looks like his tie is burgundy, no?

  1. congrats, Nora! Awesome!

  2. Rosemary says:

Yay for Nora and all that, but he is a very, very pretty man.

And how often do we have a reason to discuss him?  He’s not on the cover of anything, or speaking poorly about women in general, nor is he putting his teats on display.  Let’s use the opportunity provided!

  3. I spotted Nora’s name in a headline on MSNBC this am and squealed. How totally cool.

    Congratulations Nora!

  4. That’s amazing! Brava, Nora!!!

So tell us what it was like! Tiki and all.

  5. Miri says:

Way to go! Congrats Nora! Hope you had an awesome time.

    Tiki’s tie? Fab!

  6. Congrats, Nora! Just like Romance, you rock!

  7. Teddy Pig says:

Does this mean my Nora doll is worth even more?

  8. That’s wonderful, really wonderful. I bet Tiki is nice, too.

  9. Is that the man’s name for real? Tiki? I’d never heard of him or seen him before and now that I’ve taken a look at that picture, I want to. Very much. Not a hairy rugby player, but delicious just the same!
Oh, and some eloquent bit of congratulations for La Nora too…WHEEYEAAHH!!!!

  10. MaryKate says:

What amazing news! No one could deserve it more. Congrats, Nora, you do rock!

  11. Rosemary says:

Natalie – No, not his real name, but infinitely more pronouncable.

  12. Jami Alden says:

Congrats Nora! Tiki is yummy, and I’m also psyched that Amy Sedaris won – she is one smart funny bitch!

  13. nonny mouse says:

And he’s an identical twin? ‘Scuse me while I entertain thoughts illegal in several states…

  14. WTG!  A great award for a very deserving bitch.

  15. Metal Monkey says:

OT – Brooke Shields …. [deleted insensitive comment] …. not her best look.

Confirmation word: her46 (sounds about right)

    Congrats Nora!

  16. Yes, I fell in love with Tiki just a little bit when he was on The Daily Show about two weeks ago. He was valedictorian, dude! *swoon*

    And congrats, Nora. Completely cool.

  17. Stephanie says:

    OMG.  Identical twin, AND smart?

    I mean, I already watch football, but . . . DAAAAAAMN.

    Oh, right.  Congrats, Nora! 🙂

  18. Diane says:

I’m going to run home and put a crown on my Nora bobblehead—Nora rules!

    Congrats Nora.

  19. Yes, nonny mouse, Tiki has a twin, Rondi.  Both professional football players, though Tiki is retired now. (Such a loss to the NYG!) Adorable, smart and athletic.  What’s not to like? 😉

    They’ve written children’s books, btw.

    Congrats, Nora!  You rock!

  20. Egads says:

    Congratulations, Nora!

  21. L.I.Linda says:

Congratulations to Nora on BOTH wins. First Angels Falls won its romance catagory, then the winners of all catagories had a vote off and Nora won Book of the Year, which was the surprise award last night.

And Tiki is often on the Today show as a fill in anchor. Like today he cooked.

  22. AmandaG says:

    Yay Nora!

  23. Marta Acosta says:

We will now go to our Tiki bars and raise a Tiki punch in your honor!

    Congratulations, Nora!

  24. taybug says:

    Yay for Nora!!!!!

And, point of randomness, Nora kinda looks like my mom. I dig that.

Oooh, my wordver was “husband42.” Is Tiki looking?!?!?!

  25. Doooooood… and she got to get the award from Tiki?

    *le sigh*

    It’s good to be Nora.

  26. saltypepper says:

Ronde is the identical twin!  Yum!  They’re both professional football players, or were until Tiki decided to retire while at the top of his game/before his body gave out from all the abuse.  And now all the other football players talk about him like he’s a quitter on their manly football analysis shows! Sounds like a romance novel waiting to happen!  All that’s missing is a secret baby!

And big congratulations to La Nora!

  27. Brianna says:

Congratulations on getting to stand with Tiki Nora! Oh…and the book too 🙂 🙂

  28. nina armstrong says:

    Congrats, Nora!

  29. Karmyn says:

    Congrats Nora.
Tiki’s okay, but he did diss on Eli and nobody disses a Manning and gets away with it from me.

  30. KCfla says:

    Congrats Nora!
( not that there were any doubts!)

  31. KristenMary says:

Congratulations Nora. As you said, “Romance rocks”. You rock.

And Tiki rocks. I have always had a fondess for the Barber twins win watching football. Yummy.

  32. Josie says:

Congrats Nora! A well deserved win.

There is a whole lot of football playing man-titty around Bitch HQ this week and I likes it!

  33. Marci says:

    Congrats Nora!!

Wow – wins for three books I loved.  Nora, Amy and Diane’s books were all awesome.  What a great night for lady authors all around.  Congrats to all the winners.

But Nora winning Best Book of the Motherfriggin Year is friggin’ sweet.  Tiki is the delicious cherry on top.

  34. Brava, Nora!  If romance rocks, it’s because it’s your hands on the keyboard driving this train.

And if that wasn’t a wild and crazy metaphor, I’ll retire my keyboard.

  35. Wry Hag says:

A not-surprising, well deserved honor.  Congratulations, Nora! (Probably time to build a new trophy shelf, eh?)

Tiki?  Softspoken, articulate, built…built…built.  Just imagine that head—

    Nevermind.

  36. Nora Roberts says:

Since BOTY is a reader-generated award, mucho thanks to the bestest, votingest, bitchiest readers ever.

I should’ve said Romance Readers Rock!

Didn’t get much time to hob with the nob—or chat up Tiki—as the ceremony ran an HOUR over and mostly everyone was in a coma at the end of it.

    But he is seriously cute.

  37. Deb says:

I want to be Nora when I grow up.  Of course, since I’m already 44 I’m thinking that the chances of that are pretty slim.  But you have to have goals…

  38. Susan Cody says:

So, the identical twin lives in my fair city and very occasionally breakfasts at a place where I take my mother every Tuesday morning. Of course, now he won’t, now that his publicist has found this through Google alert and figured me for a stalker. Dang!

    Congratulations, Nora.

  39. AB says:

    Congrats Nora!

As for Tiki, I love him in the mornings and have since he was on Tiki Tuesdays on Fox News.  He’s done what most players can’t…walk away when you’re at best and look at your career as just the stepping stone to the rest of your life.  Plus he loves his mom…WOW

  40. Ehren says:

ew. Nora got the award? Double EW. Nora’s pretty half assed in her work, at least to me she is, but then I’ve only read one of her books and tossed it in the trash after I got to the middle of it and couldn’t read further. Maybe it was just that one book.
