Author: Millie Bobby Brown
Released: September 12, 2023 by William Morrow
Genre: Historical: European, Literary FictionEmmy-nominated actress and producer MILLIE BOBBY BROWN’s debut novel, Nineteen Steps, is a moving tale of love, longing, and loss, inspired by the true events of her family’s experience during World War II.
Love blooms in the darkest days…
It’s 1942, and London remains under constant threat of enemy attack as the second world war rages on. In the Bethnal Green neighborhood, Nellie Morris counts every day lucky that she emerges from the underground shelters unharmed, her loving family still surrounding her.
Three years into the war, she’s grateful to hold onto remnants of normalcy—her job as assisting the mayor and nights spent at the local pub with her best friend. But after a chance encounter with Ray, an American airman stationed nearby, Nellie becomes enchanted with the idea of a broader world.
Just when Nellie begins to embrace an exciting new life with Ray, a terrible incident occurs during an air raid one evening, and the consequences are catastrophic. As the truth about that night is revealed, Nellie’s world is torn apart. When it seems all hope is lost, Nellie finds that, against all odds, love and happiness can triumph.
Nineteen Steps is a deeply affecting, mesmerizing page-turner inspired by the author’s family history. An epic story of longing, loss, and secrets, Millie Bobby Brown’s propulsive debut introduces an unforgettable, brave young woman and boldly portrays the strength in the power of love.
“Inspired by my Nanny Ruth, this book is very personal and close to my heart. I grew up listening to stories about her time living through the war. I’m honored to keep her story alive.”—Millie Bobby Brown
You can imagine my surprise when I saw that actress Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things and Enola Holmes) wrote historical fiction.

Author: Uzma Jalaluddin
Released: September 26, 2023 by G.P. Putnam's Sons
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Romance“Combines two budding romances, a massive snowstorm, unlikely friends, meddling family members, and one magical small-town for the most festive book you’ll read this year.” —Carley Fortune, author of Every Summer After
Three times the holiday magic. Three times the chaos.
As strangers and seatmates Maryam Aziz and Anna Gibson fly to Toronto over the holidays—Maryam to her sister’s impromptu wedding, and Anna to meet her boyfriend’s wealthy family for the first time—neither expect that severe turbulence will scare them into confessing their deepest hopes and fears to one another. At least they’ll never see each other again. And the love of Maryam’s life, Saif, wasn’t sitting two rows behind them hearing it all. Oops.
An emergency landing finds Anna, Saif, Maryam, and her sister’s entire bridal party snowbound at the quirky Snow Falls Inn in a picture-perfect town, where fate has Anna’s actor-crush filming a holiday romance. As Maryam finds the courage to open her heart to Saif, and Anna feels the magic of being snowbound with an unexpected new love—both women soon realize there’s no place they’d rather be for the holidays.
Uzma Jalaluddin is co-authoring a holiday romance, out later this month.

I can’t wait to read Three Holidays and a Wedding, it looks stuffed with tropey goodness. Uzma Jalaluddin is an auto-buy author for me now. I loved her Much Ado About Nada and I was happily surprised to see another book from her this year.
Looking forward to Three Holidays and a Wedding, and I own the Golden Girls cookbook; there are at least two official ones out, both are fun!
Side note: the study of stars is astronomy.
Just noting that Millie’s book is a collaboration with Kathleen McGurl, so if you enjoy any of her historical fiction you should pick this one up!
