Hello, everyone!
New England was definitely hit with “false spring” last week because there was sleet yesterday. And it’s still so damn windy.
Definitely struggling with lots of competing interests. I think it was LML last week that brought it up. I have video games I want to play and books I want to read. I would just love like a second or third set of eyeballs.
What’s demanding your attention right now?

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I have to say, Francesca and Michaela really won me over last season with their (background) storyline. But I say that as someone who found Francesca’s book pretty forgettable. I’m an only child and I probably am closer to Francesca’s quiet, introverted personality, but I’ve always been drawn to reading about big, chaotic families in fiction. Reading about the Bridgerton sibling who didn’t want that was boring for me.
Part of me does wish they’d do Eloise first and we could have Franchela (sp?) slow burning in the background still, but I think Bridgerton does !not! do slow burn (see them doing Penelope and Colin out of order). I think Eloise is showing a little bit more of an open mind to the idea of romantic partnership, so maybe they can tease that next season.
Intrigues are not to my taste, but that collection is amazing. I wonder if an academic library or Harlequin HQ would be willing to buy it. Harlequin is such an iconic Canadian brand, it would be nice if it could stay in the country and all in one piece.
I love it when people go all in on a completist collection of something that’s traditionally treated as disposable (like Harlequin categories). I’ve seen complete runs of some other Harlequin lines but never Intrigue. That collection is great. If it doesn’t stay in Canada, I wonder if it’s something the Browne Popular Culture Library would consider purchasing to add to the collection they have – they bought Rebecca Romney’s curated collection a while back (the PDF of the collection guide is available on her site, Print Matrix).
This is also the reason I love the RT Book Reviews podcasts – preserving a very important slice of romance history.
Intrigues got me back into reading romance in the 90s, especially Rebecca York’s 43 Light Street series because I’d gone to college in Baltimore and enjoyed the location details. It’s a line that isn’t afraid to take some chances, like the Fear Familiar books.
Wouldn’t I love to own that collection! I wonder which would be most compelling – the need to create bookshelf space in a basement-less house, or the need to read every one in 2000 days?
