Between Build-A-Bear and Polly Pocket, my day is complete. I had no idea about any of this. Nor do I need any of this, but, Amanda, thank you for providing much-needed entertainment.
I love the Build-A-Bear, but you did not link to the best ones! There’s both a “Cuddly Cougar Stuffed Animal Romantasy Book Club Gift Set” and a
“Silver Fox Stuffed Animal Shadow Daddy Gift Set”. Both of which tell me that they understood the assignment, and they delivered.
The new Pride & Prejudice series will hopefully be satisfying. The teaser looks very promising! Every generation needs their own P & P. The 1995 PBS series with Colin Firth should be my favorite but it’s not. Colin Firth seems lovely but he’s not my jam at all. The 2005 movie is one of my favorite movies. When I’m sick or feeling down, I watch it. It’s definitely a comfort watch for me.
Going back to the new Netflix series, I don’t necessarily see Jack Lowden as Darcy but he’s great in Slow Horses so we’ll see. I didn’t think Matthew MacFadyen would be a good Darcy either but I was very wrong. I wish the release date would be moved up (from the fall) because we desperately need good things right now.
In this continuing awful (and getting even scarier) time, I hope everyone is being gentle with yourselves and taking time for self care. Rest and recharge when you can.
Here in New Mexico, I got my first mosquito bite of the year, so yeah. On the brighter side, the irises are blooming by the front walk!

There’s room at the table for another adaptation, and I feel this Pride and Prejudice will be more faithful to the overall story than Wuthering Heights. I don’t need it to be a perfect adaption–the JAFF community exists because of adaptations, retellings, alternate stories, prequels, and continuations. It has a wonderful cast, too.

I’m from the States but live in the UK, and maybe because of that, did not watch the 1995 series until just before I moved to the UK—thank god I did, because I swear I get into a conversation on the merits of the 1995 version and why the 2005 sucks at least once a year. This country is STEEPED in hatred for the 2005 version. I have learned to keep my undying love for the 2005—the soundtrack, the hand flex, Mr. Collins, and the exceptional wavy hairstyles—to myself. Don’t want to get deported, after all.
The Romantasy Build a Bear is kind of weird as it’s just a bear reader with a romantasy shirt holding a book. I’d rather see a tortured romantasy bear lord or a plucky bear heroine.
@Emily and the UK version has a different ending than the USA version. I call the USA ending the Sixteen Candles version with the candle scene at the water. The UK version ends with Mr. Bennet. Apparently, the USA version was considered too Hollywood per a conversation with a romance author many years ago.
