HaBO: Newborn Prefers the Sound of Parents Arguing

This HaBO request is from Donna, who wants to find this romance:

I need a refresh about a romance novel. Note: I have no time frame of publication.

The couple have a passionate and tumultuous relationship. They have their first child, a boy, who can’t sleep and only cries.

They don’t know why.

Someone asks what are they doing differently.

They swore to never fight in front of the kid.

What?!

He’s heard you arguing from the moment he grew ears! And now you’ve gone all pacific on him? Of course he can’t sleep! Something’s wrong with his parents.

So they start fighting again and baby’s happily dead to the world.

Let’s HaBO!

Our pediatrician told us of a family in his practice where the baby would only fall asleep to the sound of the vacuum cleaner in a nearby room. They burned out the vacuum’s motor before they realized they could simply make a tape of the sound, which they did. They would play it till he fell asleep then turn it off. Afterwards everyone slept soundly.

I’ve seen a tv episode with this plot. They’re babysitting, and nothing they do get the kids to sleep until everyone’s so frustrated they start arguing, which puts the babies right out. Because they’re grouch babies. That’s right, it was Sesame Street.
