Help A Bitch Out

HaBO: Abusive Stepmother

This HaBO request is from Shauna. Trigger warning for description below:

Historical Romance; the heroine is being physically abused by her (step?) mother. I think these happened in the same book but I’m not totally sure.

1. She is with her girlfriends trying on a wedding dress at a shop and they see her back is covered in scars. I feel like she didn’t know they were there and everyone just looks at each other?

2. Mom lures her from her wedding to lock her up and beat her. May be delusional? Has male helper, possibly a servant?

3. Brother shows up at the end like oh I had no idea she was this bad. I think the heroine was so used to it she didn’t really tell anyone.

I have no idea how much of this is right but the first scene is what sticks with me the most. Please help so I can sleep at night!

Let’s HaBO!

I think this is by Susie Tate, but I can’t find enough of the plot. Set in England part of series. Heroine is illegitimate, didn’t speak for a time?

Opps didn’t see that was historical

This is my HaBO! I think she is also pinches the FMC in public, but I have seen that in several books. Both she and the evil servant blame FMC for things that are not her fault, like she’s the scapegoat.

Probably stating the obvious, and it might help with narrowing it down, but could it a be Snow White retelling or adjacent?
