Tessa Bailey is a comfort read for me. There’s something about her books that hit the right spot in my brain. Dream Girl Drama annoyed the heck out of me. The conflict that kept the characters apart was ridiculous, and I wanted to throw my book/phone across the room more than once. I will say that she redeemed herself in her newest book, but I didn’t like this one.
Love me some “Hidden Legacy” series. These were such a good time and I just zipped right through them, just in time for the last book in the series to be released. I kinda want to track down the clinch cover paperbacks while they’re still lingering, because they’ve been re-releasing the series in the much pricier trade paperback size with those “romantasy”-coded object covers that I find overwhelmingly mid, at best. Give me cheaper books and my clinchy-pretty-people covers!
Wraith King was one of the fails for me. I picked it up on a previous sale. It felt very old school – they hate each other, but hey, the sex is great, but the heroine kept taking offence at things, or expecting unrealistic things, and getting disappointed. Plus very weird writing that pulled me out of the story. Not my book.

SAPPHIRE FLAMES: yes! That whole series is hugely fun. I’m sad that we didn’t get a Catalina trilogy at the end.
@book_reader: Do you mean Arabella? Ilona has said that if the Russian war on Ukraine can be brought to an end that doesn’t result in Ukraine disappearing, she & her husband (who write together under her name) have ideas about the third trilogy. She just can’t deal with the emotional fallout of the research into Russian history & politics while there is a war going on, especially since she is a native of that area of the world.

I don’t think so, I agree with Swoozi_chic that because it’s the Russian Monster Bear Arabella is to be paired with, Ilona is just not comfortable with researching and writing it while the war is still happening. That’s what I’ve read her say on their blog.

Dang, that’s mildly disappointing about the potential Arabella series. Russian Monster Bear guy was not my jam in the way that most “Rrrargh, I have no impulse control and solve my problems by punching them” heroes are not my jam. I was hoping to see an Arabella/Michael pairing based solely off the fact that Catalina said “Nope, don’t mess with him, he’s the walking embodiment of death” and Arabella’s reaction was basically “Bet.”

From what I recall, the authors talked about it in a Zoom Q&A celebrating the release of “Inheritance” and said they were coming around to the idea of Michael/Arabella.
Also in the comments in a 8/28/25 blog post (in response to a question about Arabella’s story and Duncan’s withdrawn objection) Moderator R responded “Arabella’s story will be told but does not have an official release date. The objection withdrawn was to Michael pursuing Arabella” (link below).

It’s been a minute since I read Catalina’s books, and as implausible as it sounds, I’ve completely forgotten who Russian Monster Bear is. But I do remember the scene @Cora mentioned, which definitely felt like foreshadowing. #TeamMichaella

Russian Monster bear is a shapeshifter who is a member of the Russian Royal Family. He appears near the end of Ruby Fever. His shifted form is a very large bear (as the nickname suggests).
(His actual name is Mihail, which is a version of Michael. Which means that Arabella would kind of ended up with a Michael either way.)
