  • Beg, Borrow, or Steal

Beg, Borrow, or Steal by Sarah Adams

Beg, Borrow, or Steal by Sarah Adams is $1.99! This came out in January and is the third book in the Rome, Kentucky contemporary romance series. Have you read this one?

Two feuding second-grade teachers (and neighbors) find themselves teaming up in this rivals-to-lovers romance by the New York Times bestselling author of The Rule Book and Practice Makes Perfect.

Emily Walker hates having her carefully crafted world disrupted by anyone, most of all her legendary nemesis, Jack Bennett. He’s the opposite of the wonderful heroes she dreams up in her double life as a romance writer, which is why Emily was perfectly happy when Jack left Rome, Kentucky, mid-school year, with his fiancée. The last thing Emily saw coming was Jack’s return at the start of the summer after calling off the wedding and ending his relationship, but he’s here to stay—as her colleague and her neighbor.

Jackson Bennett is glad to be back, eager to renovate his house and work on the next mystery novel under his bestselling pen name. But when he realizes he’s now neighbors with the one woman who has always pushed his buttons, he discovers something he’s even more excited for—thwarting Emily and her petty plans to sabotage his return.

With their chemistry-fueled animosity at an all-time high, Emily accidentally sends an email to their school’s principal that could reveal her secret literary side hustle. She needs to steal back her manuscript, and Jack—she hates to admit—is just the man to help her. Surprisingly, Jack agrees. Will their unlikely alliance put an end to their rivalry? Or could it lead to a steamy plot twist they never saw coming?

They both teach elementary school yet have the energy to also be successful, published writers. But they’re both choosing to continue to teach small demanding children full time. Despite each disliking their colleague so much they feel the need to engage in petty sabotage. And he’s renovating his house. Where are they finding the time? Are they fueled on meth and cocaine? It would explain the excess of energy and the otherwise inexplicably poor choices. I am exhausted just thinking about it.
The Jemisin is the only book(s) I have read of these, but I can’t imagine any I would recommend more highly. She’s absolutely in the upper echelons. I am jealous of anyone about to read this for the first time!

@kkw, just to say, as I am currently working at an elementary school, your insightful questions are making me laugh and laugh! I will have to take a look at the Jemisin!

  3. book_reader_ea01sj71r4 says:

Ancillary Justice is so good! Amazing world building. A really fun read that pulls you in as you try to understand what is going on.

  4. Sandra says:

@kkw: I don’t understand why her principal would even care what her side gig is. Or why it matters if they know. Unless, of course, she’s writing erotica and using co-workers or students names, or the principal is the Big Bad in her most recent opus. Which raises the question — does the principal know about Jack’s endeavors, and does writing mysteries somehow make it better than writing romance? Double-standards, much?

  5. Msb says:

Wow, what offers! Both Ancillary Justice and anything written by Jemisin are outstanding. Thrilling ride, though, so hold on tight.
