  • Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson is $1.99! This is book one in the Ernest Cunningham Mysteries series. I remember this one making a splash when it released because that title is very compelling.

Knives Out and Clue meet Agatha Christie and The Thursday Murder Club in this “utterly original” (Jane Harper), “not to be missed” (Karin Slaughter), fiendishly clever blend of classic and modern murder mystery.

“A witty twist on classic whodunits… Stevenson not only ‘plays fair,’ he plays the mystery game very, very well.” — Maureen Corrigan, Washington Post

Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I’m not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate.

I’m Ernest Cunningham. Call me Ern or Ernie. I wish I’d killed whoever decided our family reunion should be at a ski resort, but it’s a little more complicated than that.

Have I killed someone? Yes. I have.

    Who was it?

    Let’s get started.

EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY HAS KILLED SOMEONE

    My brother

    My stepsister

    My wife

    My father

    My mother

    My sister-in-law

    My uncle

    My stepfather

    My aunt

  • The Lady Knows Best

The Lady Knows Best by Susanna Craig

The Lady Knows Best by Susanna Craig is $2.99! This is book one in a series. The heroine is an advice columnist for a women’s magazine and the hero has just been dumped in said column.

In her print debut, award-winning author Susanna Craig launches a new Regency historical romance series, based around the daring ladies’ magazine, Mrs. Goode’s Magazine for Misses, Being a Guide to Improve Conduct and Promote Wisdom among Young Persons of the Fair Sex—also known as Goode’s Guide to Misconduct—and the witty, clever, often rebellious heroines behind it, including a controversial new advice columnist. A modern twist on the genre, will appeal to fans of Ella Quinn, Sabrina Jeffries, and those who love faster-paced, innovative historical romance featuring strong women.

Serving as the advice columnist, ‘Miss Busy B.’, for an often-subversive ladies’ magazine is the perfect outlet for Daphne Burke’s outspoken nature. But when she advises a young lady of the ton, to break off her engagement to a notorious rake, the consequences take Daphne beyond the page and into her real life.

Miles, Viscount Deveraux, sometimes known as ‘that devil Deveraux’, needs a respectable bride by the end of the Season, and he’s bet a fortune that he can get one. Now, his fiancée has not only changed her mind—but done it publicly, in a letter to London’s most infamous magazine. With the stakes high and time short, it seems reasonable to him that the columnist responsible should come to his rescue and marry him instead.

Fortunately for Miles, Daphne is eager to escape the pressures of the London marriage mart. She agrees to a courtship. But at the end of two weeks, she intends to turn him down in a big, splashy, scandal that will ruin her reputation and set her free. There’s just one shocking wrinkle: Who knew being ruined by a rake could be so much fun?

  • The Lady He Lost

The Lady He Lost by Faye Delacour

The Lady He Lost by Faye Delacour is $1.99! This is book one in the Lucky Ladies of London series and I mentioned it on a previous edition of Get Rec’d. Book two in the series is out in April.

Her only interest is in making her own way in the world. Luckily, he can help.

Lieutenant Eli Williams was supposed to be dead. In the two years since his shipwreck, his friends and family mourned him, his brother spent his savings, and his fiancée married someone else. So, when he turns up in the middle of the London social season, he quickly becomes the talk of the town. All Eli wants is to set his life back in order and reconnect with Jane Bishop, a friend who has always meant so much more to him, before returning to sea.

Jane refuses to waste any more of her life pining over Eli, who chose her cousin instead of her. She needs to focus on gaining her financial independence by establishing a ladies’ gambling club. Never mind that Eli keeps trying to atone for his past mistake by bringing in new members. He’s obviously keeping secrets about his disappearance, which means that she can’t trust him with her heart even if she did kiss him in a moment of weakness. Or three.

As Eli works to regain her trust, Jane’s defensive walls begin to crumble. But when Eli faces a court of inquiry on suspicion of desertion, Jane must decide if she can let go of the past to build a future with Eli, or risk losing him for good.

This charming and sexy friends to enemies to lovers historical romance romp is the perfect read for fans of Evie Dunmore and India Holton.

  1. Kim says:

The Stephenson book (and its sequel) is great. Fun mystery with lots of meta play about the rules of the genre, so if you like those kinds of mysteries or are a fan of the classic mystery genre in general, you might like this. Also set in Australia, so that’s a bit different. Very funny too.

  4. Rhiannon Kaye says:

I listened to Love Chai and other four letter words and really enjoyed it. (I think I’ve commented in the past that I really looked forward to the second book but I didn’t enjoy that one as much due to certain plot points). Realizing I should check for when the next in series is releasing.

  6. DejaDrew says:

I’ve really enjoyed the Ernie Cunningham mysteries. Very funny, very VERY meta, and absolutely scrupulous about being fair play mysteries. Watching all the scattered jigsaw pieces snap into place at the end is a joy (tempered with the fair play mystery fan’s frustration of “ARGH I should have caught that”)
